Howdy Townpost. I have another little pocket gun for sale here. What this little revolver is, is essentially a Hopkins & Allen Dictator 32 Rimfire suicide special spur trigger revolver. H&A would private label guns at dealers and retailers requests. And sometimes Hopkins and Allen would intentionally pick names to confuse potential customers of their competitors. That's what I think the reason for the naming behind this gun is. Iver Johnson made three different pistols all called "The Old Hickory". Dictator, was a name that Hopkins and Allen came up with and used as far as I'm aware when they first used it on some of their converted. 38 rimfire, percussion Bacon firearms, double action revolvers that they had acquired as unsold inventory when they acquired the Bacon firearms company in 1868. They also use the name Dictator on a series of .32 Rimfire pocket revolvers which are in function and form identical to this one except in name. This particular revolver would have been made from 1876-1890. This revolver was fully restored from a pretty sorry state and now is mechanically is quite functional. It's fairly common on these revolvers to have the cylinder pin extensions completely mangled up with vice and plier marks all over the knurling because when these guns are fouled with black powder they can sometimes be difficult to disassemble. The other aspect too is to disassemble this particular gun the cylinder pin is actually a screw and you must unthread it before pulling it out. The tricky bit is it's a left-handed thread not a right-handed thread I suspect that threw someone for a loop in the old days and they mangle the extension on this gun. As a result all of the knurling and marks have been polished off and now the cylinder pin is polished round. The revolver is located in Calgary AB for local delivery or pickup. Or I can ship it nationwide too.
