Winchester Model 1894 Ref #1041. Early five digit serial number. Dated 1897. This Winchester is a lever action, sporting rifle, octagon barrel, full mag. Dated 1897 Stock is excellent, appears original. A few marks. Original metal recoil pad fits well. Barrel is 26” long with sights intact. The read sights are intact and appear original. Bore is very nice, no obvious corrosion, does not appear to have ever seen black powder. Rifling throughout. Bluing is 40-50%. There are bumps and scratches on metal expected on a plus 125-year-old firearm. The drivers side receiver has a few light scratches and bangs. Screws have been used but are still usable. There is one on the loading port side that may have been a replacement. The lever functions well, safety checks out and the trigger pull, and drop are good. Firing pin is evident and protrudes when pushed on. Ejector is intact and tight, and magazine follower functions correctly.  Overall, I grade this firearm as good and should be fully functional. I don’t see many from this time frame with bores looking this good. I did not test with snap caps or fire. Only reasonable offers are considered. Low ball offers will not be responded to. Small tang crack 1” long, and a minor chip gone at tang. Forearm has an app. 2” crack and a few very minor cracks. The stock has typical bang marks. Finish appears original or period correct. Original metal recoil pad fits well. Barrel is 26” long with sights intact, rear sight may have been replaced at one time, again period correct. Bore has black powder corrosion but it’s clean now and has rifling top to bottom. Bluing appears original and app. 75-85% throughout. There are bumps and scratches on metal and evidence of minor surface rusting. Screws have been used, but in very good shape. Brand new Partial Length Picatinny/ACOG rail, 3 inches long and sits at the back part of the dust cover for a rear bias. It is the perfect length for red dot or holographic sights. It weighs 5 ounces/141g. The AK Master Mount™ patented optic mounts are unique and purpose built products for serious users. They are built as rugged as the rifle itself. It's low profile with a low axis over bore. It also has a unique quick release "Dual Axis Locking" lever and a “2 in 1” top rail design that can accommodate picatinny or ACOG based optics. Made in the USA. Dual-Axis Locking AK optic mounts secure to an AK receiver’s side rail by one of two main methods. The first method uses a rotating lever that has a contoured portion to rotate and lock into a corresponding cut-out in the side rail. Many of the traditional com-bloc optic mounts utilized this design and are broadly referred to as SVD styled mounts. This method is primarily securing the optic mount in the horizontal axis. The second method utilizes a rotating lever to deform the bottom part of the mount to “crimp” onto the side rail. These mounts are not really quick release despite their labeling as such, and this mount deformation makes it difficult to resize the mount to a different side rail on a different rifle. The more modern approach to this method is to use the rotating lever to manipulate a spring loaded clamping bar to compress against the receiver’s side rail to make it quick release capable. These style mounts are prone to “walking” along the side rail with heavy shooting sessions as they only secure the optic mount in the vertical axis. These two techniques have been combined in a patented design to firmly secure our optic mount to an AK’s side rail in both the vertical and horizontal axis to make it Dual Axis Locking. This secure attachment maintains optics zero even with sustained heavy shooting sessions. The clamping bar is also longer than the other optics mounts on the market to provide additional clamping surface contact, and two springs are used in the clamping bar mechanism for increased clamping bar stability and true quick release capability. Low Axis Over Bore The optic mount's low profile hugs the side of the AK receiver and the dust cover to deliver a low axis over bore placement. This allows simultaneous use of the rifle's iron sights if needed. The 12 sided proprietary locking bolt provides for a greater clamping bar tension range, twice that of most optic mounts on the market. This allows for true fine tuning of the clamping bar’s clamping force, and it also ensures proper fitting on side rails of slightly different dimensions on different rifles. Optics zero is maintained. Built Rugged As the AK Itself The optic mounts are machined from a solid block of 6061-T6 aluminum to achieve superior strength, but yet be weight conscious. Its one piece design keeps things simple, maintains structural integrity, and avoids fastener failures or movement that can occur in two piece optic mounts. Likewise the optic mounts were intentionally overbuilt with heavy duty struts to reliably support its integral 2-in-1Picatinny / ACOG rail and any attached optics. Its robust struts then pleasantly blend into the body of the mount which is also rugged enough to withstand whatever abuses are thrown at it. Despite the mounts ruggedness, the edges been rounded and contoured to make it egronomic, snag free and good looking. No wimpy levers here. The throw lever is also heavy duty and is fully inset into the body of the mount to protect it from any snags and accidental release. Accessory Side Rail Built into the struts supporting the top rail are cut-outs that allow for the use of optional Accessory Side Rails. These offset rails allow for use of additional sighting solutions and accessories. Compatibility The AK Master Mount™ AKM version optic mounts are specifically designed for the standard pattern AK side rail. Want a new optic, and want to buy Canadian? There's a new option for Canadian glass, sort of: Apex Optics is based in Calgary, but its scopes are actually manufactured in Japan. Apex Optics was founded in early 2020 by a group of western shooters from a range of competitive disciplines. Their goal was to create a new optics brand for competition and long-range shooting reflecting their backgrounds (IPSC, Steel Challenge, 3-Gun, Precision Rimfire, Extreme Long Range, etc.). Several of these shooters are well-known in the west's shooting scene, with long history of competition. Apex's first release will be the Rival 4-32x56 mm, which it's been developing for about 18 months. Apex partnered with Japan Optics to actually manufacture the scope, although it's designed here in Canuckistan. The scopes also undergo quality control testing in Japan, and a secondary round of quality control in Calgary. This scope has some unique features due to its design process, including Apex's proprietary CLR competition reticle. This first focal plane reticle is designed for long-range matches where shooters need their scope to handle quick transitions, with top half of the reticle unobstructed. It comes with ranging marks, for scenarios where you can't use electronic rangefinders, and has six-level illuminated main stadia. The scope also comes with elevation turret that features 15 MILs per revolution; windage and elevation adjustments are 0.1 MIL per click. The turrets are not locking, but come with mechanical zero stop and two-turn indicators (future scopes may come with locking turrets). There's a stainless steel pop-up turn indicator. Apex says it has the industry's first see-through integrated and removable throw lever. The new Rival scope has parallax knob indicators for approximate value for 100-, 200-, 500-, and 800-yard distances. There's a proprietary hydrophobic seven-layer multi-coated lens, and other features selected to give Apex's customers top performance.
