The S8 wraps backwards over the barrel and makes the barrel look like a shorter barreled, suppressed firearm without doing either of those things. It is made out of a corrosion resistant stainless steel, nitrided black, for years of hard professional use. Although the linear compensator does not decrease the sound the firearm makes, it does direct that sound away from the shooter making the shooting experience a bit easier on the ears. The S8 compensator comes in 3 threading patterns: 1/2x28TPI (the .223 standard). 5/8x24TPI 1/2x36TPI The compensator requires a barrel diameter less than 1” with an unobstructed 2” of barrel behind the threads (before thing like gas blocks, front sight towers or bayonet lugs). If you have things like front sight posts that prevent a wrap around comp, consider the S9. The S9 was developed when customers running the ruger PC or the RDB couldn't use the S8 due to its wrap back design. Using the same principle as electroplating, this system uses a low voltage and chemicals to remove the lead or copper from your barrel and plate it on the sacrificial anode (stainless steel rod) that you insert in the barrel. It did work in my 243 win 1885 but I just don't shoot enough to make it worthwhile. I think if you had some heavily fouled barrels, maybe a cache of military surplus for example this would be alot less work that scrubbing forever. Comes with the controller, the chemicals, the stainless steel rod and the electrochemical isolation doo-dads. Not sure about shipping as the rods are 30" long and there are two chemicals.
