French Model 1874 T Back Sword Bayonet for use on the 11mm M1874 Gras rifle Manufactured at the French State Arms Plant of Tulle in August 1878 The Gras was the last of the French sword type bayonets and was manufactured from 1874 until about 1885. The Bayonet and Scabbard have matching Serial numbers 96363 The left side of the guard is engraved with what looks like half a written L and the numbers 96363.  The scabbard has the same mark and numbers on the left side. Above the number on the guard are 2 diamonds each with the letter B in them. The front of the guard just above the top of the blade has the letters L and P The pommel has the number 2 stamped inside at the base along with other stamps I have not identified. The top of the tang has what looks like a C6 stamped in it. The back of the blade is engraved with M d’Armes de Tulle Aout 1878   The Spring Lock works as designed.   Overall Length – with blade in scabbard  - 25 7/8” Length of Bayonet – 25 3/8” The blade has never been sharpened. Japanese Type 30 Sword Bayonet and Scabbard Sword bayonet designed for the Arisaka Rifle from 1897 to 1945.  For use on the 6.5 mm. Type 38 rifle, 6.5 mm. Type I (Carcano) Rifle, and 7.7 mm. Type 99 rifle. This Japanese bayonet also fits on the older 6.5 mm. Type 30 rifle, whose designation this bayonet shares. The metal Type 30 scabbard was manufactured pre-1942. Made by the Nagoya Army Arsenal. The end of the rounded bird’s head pommel has the serial number 74982. The blade has been partially sharpened at some time in the past. Original Brazilian Mauser M1908 WW1 Bayonet by W K & CIE Solingen Germany with Scabbard and Frog Used with the 7mm Brazilian Mauser Model 1908 The blade is marked W.K.&Cie Solingen. The Guard and Scabbard hook are stamped with matching serial numbers, M935. There is a B stamped on the left side of the pommel as well as on the back of the blade just in front of the guard. The left side of the guard has a mark I can’t identify (possibly an X) and then a space and the serial number 78984 The base of the blade on the left side has the letter B in a circle and below that the letters P.D.I. or could be P.D.T. There are no visible markings on the spine of the blade to indicate the Manufacturer or the date of Manufacture. Length: SMLE No. 1 Mk III: 44.57 in (1,132 mm) Barrel length: SMLE No. 1 Mk III: 25.2 in (640 mm) In late 1915 the Mk III* was introduced incorporating several changes, the most prominent of which were the deletion of the magazine cut-off mechanism, which when engaged permits the feeding and extraction of single cartridges only while keeping the cartridges in the magazine in reserve, and the long-range volley sights. The windage adjustment of the rear sight was also dispensed with, and the cocking piece was changed from a round knob to a serrated slab. Rifles with some or all of these features present are found, as the changes were implemented at different times in different factories and as stocks of parts were depleted. The magazine cut-off was reinstated after the First World War ended, and not entirely dispensed with in manufacturing until 1933. The SMLE Mk III* (renamed Rifle No.1 Mk III* in 1926) saw extensive service throughout the Second World War, especially in the North African, Italian, Pacific and Burmese theatres in the hands of British and Commonwealth forces. Australia and India retained and manufactured the SMLE Mk III* as their standard rifle during the conflict, and the rifle remained in Australian military service through the Korean War, until it was replaced by the L1A1 SLR in the late 1950s.The Lithgow Small Arms Factory finally ceased production of the SMLE Mk III* in 1953.
