Original German WWI M1898/05 a/A Butcher Bayonet by Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie Solingen with Scabbard - Dated 1915   This example was made in 1915 by Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie Solingen. It carries the Royal Cypher of Kaiser (Emperor) Wilhelm II of Prussia, who reigned 1888–1918. Wilhelm II was the "Kaiser Wilhelm" of First World War fame.This version is known as a/A (alter Art = old model). These early pattern bayonets were made with a vestigial muzzle ring, known as "high horns", and did not have a flashguard on the back of the grip.  A great many of the a/A bayonets had the “high horns” ground away. The horns on this bayonet are intact in original condition.   The left side of the blade immediately in front of the guard is stamped Weyersberg Kirschbaum & C IE Solingen. The back of the blade immediately in front of the guard has the letter W below a crown and below that the number 15 which is the year of acceptance.  The base of the pommel on the left side has 2 markings which appear to be repeated. It looks like a D over an oval. The blade has been sharpened. The Bayonet lock works as designed.   Overall Length – with blade in scabbard  - 21 1/2” Length of Bayonet – 19 ¾” Length of Grip including the Guard – 5 1/4” Blade Length – 14 1/2”   $250.00   Thanks, Phil
