12 ga. double barrel, side by side, shotgun. manufactured by P [Paul] Webley] & Son of Shaftsbury Avenue London England. This firearm was manufactured before the manufacturer changed its name to Webley & Scott in 1897. 2.75 in. chambers. fixed chokes. double triggers. internal hammers. automatic safety. Hawkins recoil pad. double bead sight. All metal parts including the rib and both barrels are covered in intricate beautiful engraving. Wooden stock and wooden fore stock are both delicately checkered. Well cared for. Has not been fired for many decades. No rust or pitting on any metal parts. Stock has a few scratches and dents but no cracks. There is a small hairline crack on the upper right side of the fore stock. price includes an interesting looking old worn leather take down carrying case and a vintage cleaning kit in an old wooden box. more photos available on request. the shotgun was not stored in the leather carrying case.

12 ga. double barrel side by side shotgun. Made by G [George] Bate a famous English gunmaker from Birmingham England. double triggers. double exposed hammers. 2.5 inch chambers. all the metal parts of the firearm are covered with delicate intricate engraving. the barrels appear to be Damascus steel. There is no serial number from the manufacturer. There is a serial number sticker from the Canadian Firearms Registry on the side of the receiver from when the firearm was registered under the now defunct long gun registry. all old firearms records for this gunmaker were destroyed in the 1940's when the factory was bombed in WWII. The gun was made between the 1890's and the 1920's. G Bate Maker, changed its name to G Bate Ltd in the 1920's. in the 1990's the name was changed to Bate & Cross [Gunmaker] Ltd. it has been well cared for. there is no rust and no pitting. the wooden stock has some scratches and dents but is not cracked. it has not been fire for many decades.

The barrels have a small degree of oxidation next to the chamber. The Damascus finish is still looking nice. One of the hammers is a nice replacement. Somebody carved a dog and a bird on the right side of the stock. The forend is very nice. The stock was probably made with a select piece of wood to be able to curve the stock. 100 yr old Double-barrel. Fantastic condition fo the age. Butt and fore-end wood are perfect, no scratches or dings, still carrying the original varnish. 30" Barrels, a bit of wear showing, but nothing serious. Original blueing has aged to a decent patina. A couple of small dings on the barrel, due to sitting in a safe for many many years. Shoots beautifully and is a great gun for trap or gamebirds. I would no recommend letting off both barrels at once unless you know how to brace yourself properly. Breech is not fancy, with minor scrollwork. Historically, Fox rates as one of the better non-European shotguns from this era. Would consider trade for pre-1970 Winchester '94 in .30-.30.
