I have a very good condition vintage Winchester 1885 in .45 70 that I'm prepared to sell. It started out as a .38-55 and was sleeved to .22 l.r.. I had the 28 inch, half octagon, half round heavy barrel bored and rechambered by Ron K. Smith in Alberta to .45 70 and an aperture sight installed. As you would expect with an RKS barrel, it is accurate. It has correct walnut stocks, refinished, with the heavy crescent butt plate. The action wall has been reduced on the right side to more easily eject spent .22 l.r. shells; Mr. Smith assured me this does not reduce the strength of the action. The lever/trigger guard has been modified to make levering faster. I've got $2800 invested in this rifle which I'd like to recover. I'll split actual shipping costs with the buyer. Selling/trading a Marlin Model 39A Golden lever action .22. Overall it's in nice shape. Bluing shows well throughout, could use a good polishing if anything and has some light spots of wear - nothing major. Wood stocks are also in nice shape, normal bumps and bruises throughout. Bore is excellent. Comes topped with a Williams Twilight 2.5x20mm scope which seems to have discoloured to a gold finish. Also comes with the leather Marlin strap pictured. Winchester Model 1894 Ref #1041. Early five digit serial number. Dated 1897. This Winchester is a lever action, sporting rifle, octagon barrel, full mag. Dated 1897 Stock is excellent, appears original. A few marks. Original metal recoil pad fits well. Barrel is 26” long with sights intact. The read sights are intact and appear original. Bore is very nice, no obvious corrosion, does not appear to have ever seen black powder. Rifling throughout. Bluing is 40-50%. There are bumps and scratches on metal expected on a plus 125-year-old firearm. The drivers side receiver has a few light scratches and bangs. Screws have been used but are still usable. There is one on the loading port side that may have been a replacement. The lever functions well, safety checks out and the trigger pull, and drop are good. Firing pin is evident and protrudes when pushed on. Ejector is intact and tight, and magazine follower functions correctly.  Overall, I grade this firearm as good and should be fully functional. I don’t see many from this time frame with bores looking this good. I did not test with snap caps or fire. Only reasonable offers are considered. Low ball offers will not be responded to. This ORIGINAL 1895 Marlin rifle was shipped from the New Haven, Connecticut factory on Apr. 29, 1903. Solidly built for the larger calibers, this one in 38-56 cal. and is in NRA fine condition. The receiver now appears as silver although its original case hardening pattern can still be made out. The rest of the metal has taken on a brownish patina. All numbers and lettering are sharp and legible. The barrel a 26 inch long smokeless steel SPECIAL order half round, half octagon version, with a 1/2 magazine. The bore is good with intact rifling and a bit of shine. The wood is a SPECIAL order walnut with a beautiful grain pattern on both the forearm as well as the butt stock. While no longer factory available the 38-56 caliber is equivalent to the 35 Rem. Reloading components are available from various sources. Marlin only produced only 18,000 Model 1895's, in contrast to Winchester producing 160,000 model 1886's which was the Marlin's counterpart and competition. This alone makes the Marlin a comparatively rare firearm. Factory Letter is included. All components that are numbered have been determined to be Matching! This includes the extra fancy stocks which do not show up in the letter. The purchaser will assume all shipping costs as well as any desired insurance. Please respond via email.
