With "bulldog" type short barre and no regular extractor on the side this revolver made for concealed carry and optimised for fast action. The action is strong and crisp, and the cylinder indexes and locks properly, without any play in the cylinder. The bore of the 2 1/2-inch barrel is excellent mirror bright with strong rifling. The black hard rubber grips are very good and undamaged. SN 82458. ​ History & Background The M1877 was Colt's first double action revolver. Colt insisted on inventing their own double action mechanism, partly because there were numerous patents for DA revolvers in effect, which Colt did not want to infringe upon, but also because they trusted their chief engineers William Mason and C.B. Richards to come up with an original design. For this reason, the M1877's action is like a Swiss clock: it is somewhat convoluted and complicated, and it has earned the nickname "the gunsmith's favorite" over time. The gun did enjoy tremendous popularity however, and was manufactured for 32 years, even after Colt had improved the mechanism and simplified it considerably in later years. The M1877 was available in three calibers - .32, .38 and .41, and was originally called "Lightning". Later collectors coined the name "Rainmaker" for the .32 and "Thunderer" for the .41. Let me know if you want to be put on the waiting list. ** I think we can all agree that the SKS triggers are brutal. Suitable for battle conditions but for civilian use, ... These Wolff spring kits make a noticeable improvement. I have seen ads for Mcarbo (two different weights) trigger springs but no hammer spring for $22. Also have seen ads for Wollf spring kits but they're not in stock and you need to go on a waiting list. Mine are "in-stock" and ready to go. Wolff part number 30190, hammer and trigger springs as shown. The picture looks kind of funny, I know. I took two pictures for this ad, in one the writing on the top was clearly visible, but the flash was reflecting right over the spring and you couldn't see it very well. So I combined the two pictures into one. I just purchased a trigger gauge, so I will do the measurements and post the results in a couple of days. I can state for certain that my "re-worked" trigger "feels" much better, but having the ability to measure it is much more credible. Replacement of the springs is not the simplest process. You need some pretty good punches and a vice. If you don't work slow and steady you can bend the pins and have other greif. If you don't want to tackle it on your own, let me know.
