Description

New Barrel 1.25”, 30”

That's a serious long-range / ELR setup for 300 Win Mag.

Here's what those specs mean together:

1.25" diameter x 30" long = Heavy straight cylinder

That's not a hunting contour, that's a straight-bull target barrel.

•  Weight: A 1.25" straight blank 30" long is about 10 - 11 lbs for just the barrel before chambering and fluting. With bore removed, figure ∼10.2 lbs.

•  Stiffness: Extremely stiff, which is what you want for long strings of fire and minimal POI shift as it heats up. It will need a large shank action like a Defiance, Bat, Rem 700 with heavy varmint channel opened way up, or an ELR action - a factory sporter stock won't work.

•  Heat: Takes a long time to heat up, a long time to cool down.

30" length in 300 Win Mag

30" is long for 300 WM - most factory are 24-26".

You gain about 20-25 fps per inch over a 26". So vs a standard 26" rifle, you're looking at +80-100 fps. With that length you can realistically get:

•  200gr ELD-X / AccuBond: ∼2950-3050 fps

•  215gr Berger Hybrid: ∼2850-2950 fps

•  230gr Berger OTM / A-Tip: ∼2720-2820 fps

Downside is maneuverability and you will want a good muzzle brake, that much barrel hanging out there is a lot of leverage.

1:10 twist

That is the classic, correct twist for 300 Win Mag. 1:10 will stabilize everything you would want to shoot in it:

•  Perfect zone: 180gr to 220gr

•  Will also stabilize 230gr Berger / Hornady A-Tip at the velocities a 30" barrel gives you, especially at Calgary-area altitude. If you were planning to live at 230gr+ exclusively, a 1:9 would give more margin, but 1:10 is the standard for a reason and will do 230s fine.
