Other Revolver Firearms Handgun
“Victorian Manstopper.” They were typically made between about 1870–1885 by British Continental Marker, other manufacturers where Bonehill, Horsley, Webley & Wilkinson (suspiciously believe this maybe an A Fancotte of Liege Belgium.)
These were massive handguns used by British officers in the late 1800s. They are extremely rare today.
Nickel or bright finish with good bore (hand grip area has some finish loss)
Large lanyard ring
Cased with cartridges ( case has a crack on the lid)
16 rounds included plus Brass included for reloading
mechanically complete
Typical Pryse-style latch and trigger layout
Has an anchor ⚓️ and chain marking below the cylinder on the left hand side.
Markings- there is crown on the right side by the frame and a symbol down over an R( circa 1852 proof house liege type of proof and gun, rifled arms Defense for smokeless proof parabellum pistols.) The next proof is a star over a K, on the receiver flat star over k. On the over side 577. Bottom serial number 1648 and says De Pose , left side under grips marked MV2 and then on the back of the cylinder star over k then it Marked E Over LG (which is 1893 proof house liege type of proof and gun definitive black powder proof for breach loading guns, small board guns and hand guns) underneath is marked- in the back of the cylinder area , also crown over L.
This is believed to be a Continental revolver make. With Continental proofs and manufacturer.
The cartridge fired a 400–450 grain bullet around 700–725 fps, which was enormous handgun power for the time and gave it the nickname “Manstopper.”
They were produced in very small numbers (possibly under 100 in total across different makers), which is why collectors value them highly today.
