Winchester Model 71 lever-action rifle chambered in .348 Win
348 Win. Lever Firearms Rifle
This example is the standard version with a 24-inch round barrel, pistol-grip stock, and checkered forend. It has the later “short tang” receiver (most common after the very early production). The serial number visible in the photos (36816) dates it to approximately 1951–1952 (late production, post-WWII era).
Key features from your images:
• Markings: “WINCHESTER — MODEL 71 — TRADE MARK” and “348 W.C.F.” on the barrel.
• Metal finish shows some patina/wear (typical for a used 70+ year-old rifle), with honest field use rather than heavy abuse.
• Stock has visible dings, scratches, and a small repair hole (common on older levers).
• Overall, a solid, original shooter/collector piece in very good to good condition (not mint or refinished). Rear Stock has a little bit of movement and could use a little bit of work. But at this price, you can’t go wrong. The bore is in good condition and still has land lands and grooves present. No rust or pitting in the barrel.
The Model 71 is a smooth, strong action known for reliability in cold weather or rough conditions—popular historically in Canada and Alaska for big-game hunting.
