Webley MP Metropolitan Police Revolver, 2.5" barrel, 6 shot. The action functions excellent in single and double action. Timing and lockup are very good.
This "MP" is in perfect condition. It has about 100% of the finish left. The markings are strong and the action is excellent and very smooth. There is a very small amount of movement in the cylinder. The front of the frame is marked "P No. 261", which is a police inventory number. The gun is chambered for a .450 cartridge but can take a 45ACP / .455 Mk II as well. The walnut grip is excellent and showing little wear and sharp checkering. The bore of the 2 1/2 inch barrel is excellent and bright, with sharp rifling. Sharp, complete markings, SN 84649, rated perfect overall.
History & Background
The Webley MP (Metropolitan Police) revolver was originally called the RIC Model/82, and it was not until a substantial amount of them had been sold to the London Metropolitan Police that the name was officially changed. Webley even designed a special logo – the hands in handcuffs with the words “Webley’s MP” around it - to differentiate it from the old models. All MP’s are short-barreled, large-caliber guns in .442 and .450/.455. Although the majority of them were sold to the Metro Police, many were also sold privately, as well as to some other police departments in the British Commonwealth, including New South Wales.
