WWII 1942 German hand-cranked air raid siren (Handsirene)
These are niche collectibles prized by WWII historians, reenactors, and air raid siren enthusiasts.
This one isn’t working order and has its original patina from 1942. You will share to impress everybody in your household with this air raid siren!
Key Identifying Features
• Maker: Clearly marked JURK in a circular stamp on the body, with 1942 dated below it. Jurk was a known German manufacturer of these portable sirens.
• Handle: Marked “Ziehen” (German for “Pull”) with an arrow, indicating the direction to operate or a folding/pull feature on the Bakelite grip. This is a classic detail on higher-quality or later-war examples.
• Construction: It has a prominent Bakelite (or similar phenolic resin) component on the main horn/bell section and handle area, mixed with metal. The interior shows the rotor/chopper mechanism with slots for creating the wailing sound.
• Condition: From the photos, it shows honest wartime patina, surface rust, and wear but appears complete and functional (smooth crank mechanism visible, no obvious major breaks). The mounting base and crank assembly look solid.
These Jurk-marked sirens with Bakelite parts and clear 1942 dating are scarcer than basic all-metal or Helin-marked versions. The red/brown Bakelite is particularly sought after by collectors.
