The bolt also has the C broad arrow. Nice walnut stock with minor marks on the stock as can be expected on a training rifle. Length: SMLE No. 1 Mk III: 44.57 in (1,132 mm) Barrel length: SMLE No. 1 Mk III: 25.2 in (640 mm) In late 1915 the Mk III* was introduced incorporating several changes, the most prominent of which were the deletion of the magazine cut-off mechanism, which when engaged permits the feeding and extraction of single cartridges only while keeping the cartridges in the magazine in reserve, and the long-range volley sights. The windage adjustment of the rear sight was also dispensed with, and the cocking piece was changed from a round knob to a serrated slab. Rifles with some or all of these features present are found, as the changes were implemented at different times in different factories and as stocks of parts were depleted. The magazine cut-off was reinstated after the First World War ended, and not entirely dispensed with in manufacturing until 1933. The SMLE Mk III* (renamed Rifle No.1 Mk III* in 1926) saw extensive service throughout the Second World War, especially in the North African, Italian, Pacific and Burmese theatres in the hands of British and Commonwealth forces. Selling/trading an 1862 Enfield Snider rifle inn .577 Snider. These were modified rifles carried by the Metis as "Blanket Guns" during the Red River and Northwest Rebellions associated with Louis Riel. Based on the ornate decoration and configuration of the rifle, this would have been a period correct gun of that time. Barrel is a smoothbore. Wood stocks shows normal wear for its age but is in good solid shape. Steel has patina'd and shows well. Action has some play in it, hammer is cocked slightly to the left. A very unique piece. No PAL required, just proof of age. Would suggest having this gone over by a gunsmith prior to firing. Looking for $995 shipped. Insurance by request on buyer. Open to all trades. Manufactured by Sanderson in February 1917. The reverse side ricasso has standard marks, the "X" bend test, three Enfield RSAF inspection marks and the Broad Arrow British Government acceptance stamp at the top. The pommel is marked A.S.H.C. for the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Canada Below this is the number “178” which suggests the weapon number, and the numbers 4 21 below that are dates the regiment acquired the bayonet. This Canadian Scottish regiment was a training regiment during WW1 and was absorbed into the C.E.F for overseas service.   The left side of the blade at the base has a Crown stamped in with the number 1907 below it. The right side of the blade at the base has a number of markings. There is a small crown with the numbers IV beneath it and Below that is the initial E.  Which signifies the Inspector was located at the Enfield Factory. Above the crown is the Broad Arrow, a British Govt Property mark. There is the X bend-test mark.  On each side of the X are acceptance marks.  The side of the pommel opposite the button has the initials A.S.H.C. with a line underneath.  The button works properly. Below the line is the number 178, believed to be the weapon number. Below 178 is 4 and 21 on each side of the lanyard hole for the date April 1921   The scabbard is in very good solid condition. The end of the scabbard is stamped  137. The back of the scabbard has the initials stamped into the leather J.W.B. with the number 18 Stamped below the initials.  J.W.B. is the Manufacturer of the scabbard in 1918. "J.W.B. on a bayonet scabbard stands for J. W. Browne (or Brown) of Birmingham, a leather goods manufacturer who made scabbards, often for the British Pattern 1907 bayonet, with typical markings including the date (e.g., 1918) and acceptance stamps, indicating wartime production during World War I for the British and Canadian forces. Overall Length – with blade in scabbard  - 23” Length of Bayonet – 21 ¾” Length of Grip including the Guard – 4 3/4” Blade Length – 16 7/8” The blade is in quite good unsharpened condition, an unmarred edge with slightly blunted possibly broken tip.   $225.00 or Best Offer!   Thanks, Phil

The this one was checked and tested for smokeless powder by gunsmith and has NP proof mark. This one was professionally modified to accept 45auto rim and .45ACP cartridges on a moon clip and also can be used with original .455 Webley ammo. The gun is in like new condition with everything tight and working like a Swiss clock and plenty of the original blue remaining. The action is accurate strong and very smooth. The cylinder indexes and locks properly without any play. The bore of the 4-inch barrel is good and mirror bright, with sharp rifling. The grips are excellent and undamaged. SN 33645, very fine overall. History & Background Philip Webley & Son began making top break, hinged revolvers as early as 1880, with the Charles Pryse patented design they acquired for use on their Webley-Pryse revolvers. Soon thereafter an improved locking mechanism by Michael Kaufmann produced the Webley-Kaufmann design, followed by Webley's own improved "Government" model, or "WG". It was not until 1887, when the British military hoped to replace the Enfield revolver that the first "Mark" revolver model was introduced. The Mk I was soon followed by the MkII (1894), then III (1897), and eventually as many as six variations were made, between 1887 and 1949. The Webley top break "Mark" revolvers were probably the single most widely used side arm in the world, and were still in service as late as the 1970’s.
