The Mauser engineers, utilizing existing parts in stock, developed prototypes in October 1945. These prototypes incorporated a combination of the single-shot Mauser KKW mechanism and the magazine/magazine well of the Mauser Model 37 (also known as Mm 510). Between December 1945 and the end of June 1946, approximately 10,000 to 15,000 "Mauser 45" units were manufactured. While some were crafted from existing KKW components (with the distinctive Mauser 45 stock), the majority were newly produced. Under Soviet pressure, the French were compelled to dismantle the factory in Oberndorf, relocating parts to St-Etienne. Early neurological stimulation (ENS) was provided daily starting on March 14, and was completed on March 29, 2024.
