Want a new optic, and want to buy Canadian? There's a new option for Canadian glass, sort of: Apex Optics is based in Calgary, but its scopes are actually manufactured in Japan. Apex Optics was founded in early 2020 by a group of western shooters from a range of competitive disciplines. Their goal was to create a new optics brand for competition and long-range shooting reflecting their backgrounds (IPSC, Steel Challenge, 3-Gun, Precision Rimfire, Extreme Long Range, etc.). Several of these shooters are well-known in the west's shooting scene, with long history of competition. Apex's first release will be the Rival 4-32x56 mm, which it's been developing for about 18 months. Apex partnered with Japan Optics to actually manufacture the scope, although it's designed here in Canuckistan. The scopes also undergo quality control testing in Japan, and a secondary round of quality control in Calgary. This scope has some unique features due to its design process, including Apex's proprietary CLR competition reticle. This first focal plane reticle is designed for long-range matches where shooters need their scope to handle quick transitions, with top half of the reticle unobstructed. It comes with ranging marks, for scenarios where you can't use electronic rangefinders, and has six-level illuminated main stadia. You can see a full explanation of the CLR reticle design at Apex's website. The scope also comes with elevation turret that features 15 MILs per revolution; windage and elevation adjustments are 0.1 MIL per click. The turrets are not locking, but come with mechanical zero stop and two-turn indicators (future scopes may come with locking turrets). There's a stainless steel pop-up turn indicator. Apex says it has the industry's first see-through integrated and removable throw lever. The new Rival scope has parallax knob indicators for approximate value for 100-, 200-, 500-, and 800-yard distances. There's a proprietary hydrophobic seven-layer multi-coated lens, and other features selected to give Apex's customers top performance. Webley & Sons circa 1896 chambered in .476 Eley and .455 Webley, and sold by the famed John Rigby & Co. in London. Established in 1775, John Rigby & Co remains to this day a staple of the fine firearms market. Their role in this piece's history adds even further to collector value. These revolvers were very popular private purchases among sportsmen and higher ranking officers around the turn of the 20th century up through WW1 as reliable, accurate, and elegant handguns. With an impressive 6" barrel and mirror-bore rifling, this is a collector's or target shooter's dream. I can add a box of 50 factory new Fiocchi Heritage .455 Webley rounds with purchase of the revolver if you have a PAL. If you don't want these rounds, take $100 off asking price. As a pre-1898 antique, this can be owned and used without any registration or headaches. Visually this revolver retains most of its original shiny dark blue finish with scattered minor loss from 130 years living. The trigger, hammer, ejector, cylinder release mechanism, and hinge screw have a shiny silver "in the white" finish giving a proud and bold contrast. The original checkered square bottom hardwood grips are solid, showing some minor dings and a tiny chip on the right. Sharply stamped "WG Army Model" on the top strap with calibers ".455/.476" Webley and Eley, and the W&S winged bullet logo on the left of the frame. The barrel is hand etched with the retailer address "JOHN RIGBY & Co. 72 ST JAMES'S St LONDON S.W.". SOLD. $800 Not sure of the year but guessing from The 70’s. Real low round count for the age. Sounds like it sat in a safe for over 30 years with a good coat of oil. Excellent condition. Only thing I’ve changed on it was the butt pad. The original was rock hard. Put a rubber butt pad that absorbs some recoil. Scope is nothing special. Red Ram 4x32. It was still zeroed for 200 when I took it to the range though. If I was keeping it, think that’s the only thing I’d change but this would be a perfect starter hunting rifle as is. .308 win still reasonable $ and will put down most big game if you know how to shoot.
