John Forbes of Liverpool Sawhandle Smoothbore Adjustable Trigger .62 Calibre Percussion Conversion Fine Antique Dueling Pistol
Howdy Townpost! I have a truly amazing one of a kind piece here for sale. I bought this for myself in the US over a year ago and I had it professionally restored and fully repaired. I am now looking to sell it. John Forbes, of Liverpool, was gunmaker to His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, later King George IV. And according to my research made mostly dueling and target pistols, and some small pocket pistols for only 5 years. Those years being 1805-1810. He spelt his name with I or Iohn and later switched the spelling to a J or John based on public records and some of the other examples of his dueling pistols that have sold at auction. That makes this a very rare and finely made pistol. This pistol would have cost a small fortune at the time it was made. Oftentimes dueling pistols come in pairs but it was cheaper to buy just one if they were offered as a single, and should you encounter someone who has insulted your honor and you demand satisfaction from them, they can bring their own pistol to the duel. The engraving is extremely fine, intricate and skilled. It would have taken many dozens of hours to complete and it was all done by hand. The engraving features drums, banners and spears, floral patterns, sunbursts on the base plate and lock, and a pineapple in the front of the trigger guard, which symbolizes wealth and status. Because this gun is a percussion conversion of the original flintlock mechanism the percussion hammer is engraved in a different style by a different engraver in a more simple floral and fish mouth style of engraving with gold inlay. Every screw is engraved to look like a flower and the escutcheons are also each engraved like a wreath. Overall there is a lot of fine detail with some simpler and less detailed later additions on the percussion mechanism and one spot on the side plate. The gun features gold inlay on the hammer which largely worn away. There is silver inlay on the outside of the breach, and a sterling silver wreath styled band wrapped around the base of the grip and a sliver bead front sight. The ramrod tip (which is a replacement) is silver plated brass, so too are the front stock cap near the muzzle, the rod pipe, cross key, and escutcheon around it are too. The grip baseplate is silver plated steel. The workmanship of this pistol is certainly of a quality of gunmaker worthy enough of being the gun maker of the Prince of Wales. The pistol is located in Calgary AB for local delivery or pickup. Or I can ship it too.

Description Small bore hunting match repeaters of the series 64: This model shares the action and design with the series 1416 and 1516, but with specific stock design and fitted with the acclaimed heavy target barrel. The basis of this model is the sturdy Match 64 barreled action, equipped with a target two-stage trigger with adjustable position and the universal Multi Purpose Beavertail stock. The Beavertail stock is widely different from the traditional European hunting stock. Created from the requirements of varmint hunters from the „New World“ this stock combines the advantages of classic target barrel with the wide and easy to handle Beavertail forend. An integrated accessory rail in the forend rounds the versatility of these models. A very field useable sport/target accuracy level variant with a constantly growing popularity. Barreled Action The action is used in the ANSCHÜTZ Luxus repeaters 1416/1417 and 1516/1517. This is a bolt action with cam cocking, claw extractor, additional cartridge holder and ejector. Telescopic sight mounting is by an 0.43" wide ANSCHÜTZ Wave Style V-block dovetail rail or by additional drilled and tapped holes. The sliding safety catch onthe right hand side blocks the trigger sear in the safe position and simultaneously lifts the trigger sear and bolt release latch. The bolt can also be opened in the safe position, allowing unloading the firearm with the safety engaged. Trigger ANSCHÜTZ target two-stage and single-stage triggers have always set the standard for quality, reliability, and precision. It is not without reason that ANSCHÜTZ triggers are known as the best in the world. Many manufacturers offer adapters for integration of this masterpiece of the German gunsmith‘s art into their firearms. The light weight, hardened and finely ground trigger components facilitate fast and consistent trigger release. Barrel • Cylindrical precision match barrel. • Manufactured using an ANSCHÜTZ special process. • Excellent shooting performance. • Recessed muzzle. • Reinforced muzzle with 11 mm wide prism rail for front sight. Sight set This model is delivered without sights. However, the system sleeve and the barrel end are equipped with an 11 mm wide prism rail for attaching a rear sight and front sight tunnel. Stock The lacquered multi-purpose beavertail stock has nothing in common with the classic European hunting stock. The wide, easy-to-use beaver tail fore-end with integrated aluminum profile rail can be quickly and easily added to other accessories such as Handstops can be fitted. The easy-to-grip hallmarking on the handle offers optimal hold even in damp weather. The buttstock with black rubber cap 4709 A is prepared for a clamping piece, which enables cap extensions to be attached. Therefore, this shaft is also ideal for hunting competition shooting. Butt Plate Straight, with guide plate 4709 A-U2/1 and set screws. • Non-slip rubber butt plate 4709A. • Prevents slipping of the butt plate in position. • Stepless hight adjustment. Pre-WW1 British Pattern 1821 Canadian Artillery Officer's Sword – no Scabbard Savage and Lyman Montreal Sword This company name was used by the Montreal silversmiths Savage and Lyman between 1868-1878. The left side of the blade immediately in front of the guard Is marked Savage & Lyman Montreal Within the engraving on the left side is a Crown.  Believed to be indicative of Queen Victoria. The right side of the blade has a small brass insert which says PROOF.  Wilkinson Sword introduced these Proof Discs in 1844. In the engraving on the right side of the blade is the word ARTILLERY The guard is steel and has fish skin wire bound grips with most of the fish skin having been worn away.   Length of Sword – 40 1/2” Length of Grip including the Guard – 5 1/2” Blade Length – 34 1/2”   Savage & Lyman Montreal (or Savage & Lyman and Company) were manufacturers and suppliers of swords, known for military pattern swords like those for Canadian militia units (e.g., 1st Battalion Chasseurs Canadiens), marking them as producers/sellers, though like many firms, they likely had blades forged elsewhere (perhaps by specialists like J. Martin in Montreal) and then finished, hilted, proofed, and sold by Savage & Lyman in Montreal, a common practice for armsmakers then.  Key Points: Evidence of Manufacturing: Swords clearly marked "SAVAGE & LYMAN MONTREAL" exist in museum collections, showing they were a recognized name in arms. Role: They functioned as an arms dealer and supplier, customizing and selling weapons for Canadian military and militia. Production vs. Supply: While they might not have forged every single blade from raw steel in-house, they were responsible for the final product, including proofing and adding their own markings, as seen on a 1885 Chasseurs Canadiens sword. In short, they were a key player in the Montreal arms trade, making/selling quality military swords, even if blade forging was sometimes outsourced to other specialized smiths.    $350.00 Or Best Offer   Thanks,  Phil

STEADY SHOOTER TRIPODS. (They make a great gift for the hunter that has everything.) 306-221-9599 text or call More information on the shooting tripod you may want to read below. The SteadyShooter is the best portable shooting support on the market. Price is about the best price on the market.   The SteadyShooter is light-weight (approx. 985 grams or 2 pounds) and the legs fold together which makes it easy to carry with you at all times when hunting.   SteadyShooter has a fully-adjustable side rest which can be used to instantly shoot from a kneeling or sitting position. In my experiences this is a very useful feature as sometimes getting up for a standing shot can spook your animal away. To my knowledge, no other shooting rest on the market has this feature.   The above-mentioned side-rest  can also be used to allow shooting from the prone position.   The legs have two telescoping sections so they can be varied in length from 32" to 75".  However, using the side rest you can support your rifle at a height as low as 6" (ie. prone position).   The SteadyShooter sets up in seconds when a hunter carries it with the legs extended to his/her preferred length.   The V-yoke rotates 360 degrees and provides a very steady support for your rifle.   The V-yoke and side-rest are both nicely padded with soft rubber to protect your gun.   SteadyShooter folds into a small convenient package (3½" X 35") for transport and storage.   The legs are aluminum and the other parts are molded plastic and/or rubber.
