Howdy Townpost! I've got a nice little uncommon and good condition subcompact Remington for sale now! This started its life as a Remington Model 1865 New Model Police as a cap and ball percussion revolver in .36 caliber. Many of these were never percussion guns as they existed in a weird transition period. And Remington made some of them from the ground up as cartridge guns. This one most likely was in inventory as a percussion revolver and was turned into a .38 rimfire cartridge revolver based on the serial number, in my opinion. These are one of the more rare and lesser known Remington cap and ball guns that were made. Remington only made 18,000 between 1865 and 1873. So they are relatively uncommon and scarce gun today. This is actually my personal favorite model of Remington percussion revolver they're a very handy subcompact-sized gun by today's standards they're bigger and much more comfortable in the hand in the grip than the pocket models but nice and light unlike the full size military .44s and they point very naturally. This particular example is in very good condition the nickel is a very high percentage of coverage some of the original silver plate is still visible on the trigger guard and some of the low areas. The color case hardening is still very colorful and defined on the hammer (pictured). The grips have been refinished but they are the originals. The wood grain is very interesting and beautiful in my opinion. The bore is in excellent condition especially for a Civil War era black powder firearm. This was likely carried in a police officer's holster and not fired much. It was well taken care of and the clean and good condition bore and chambres are reflection of that. The the mechanical function of this firearm is excellent as well. When I got the firearm it was actually in amazing condition to begin with and the mechanical function was perfect. It locks up and times perfectly. The hammer and the trigger pull are very crisp, light and smooth. And didn't require any adjustment, Remington did the job and they did it right the first time. The entire revolver has been taken apart and given a gunsmith's cleaning and was reassembled and lightly oiled. I came across a nice little Hunter leather holster at a gun show and found that it fit this gun very well so it's included as a freebie with the gun (pictured). Howdy Townpost. This is a nice little and fair conditioned pocket tip-up revolver, in .30 Rimfire. In the 19th century, XXX was used denote very strong malt liquor. So I think marlin was trying to market in the name that this is a stout little gun. Similarly done by Hopkins & Allen with the naming of their "XL" series of pocket revolvers. These were made by Marlin from 1873-1887 with a total of roughly 26,000 being made. They are essentially copies of the Smith and Wesson Model 1 1/2's and 2's. The mechanical condition of this firearm is excellent. The hammer and cylinder function reliably and as intended. Timing and lock up are excellent. The barrel is tight on the frame. This revolver was tuned by my gunsmith too. The bore is worn but there's some life left in it. There's frosting at the front of the cylinder and the forcing cone. The nickel is mostly present on the frame and the beautiful original rosewood grips are in excellent shape. The revolver is located in Calgary AB for local delivery or pickup. Want a new optic, and want to buy Canadian? There's a new option for Canadian glass, sort of: Apex Optics is based in Calgary, but its scopes are actually manufactured in Japan. Apex Optics was founded in early 2020 by a group of western shooters from a range of competitive disciplines. Their goal was to create a new optics brand for competition and long-range shooting reflecting their backgrounds (IPSC, Steel Challenge, 3-Gun, Precision Rimfire, Extreme Long Range, etc.). Several of these shooters are well-known in the west's shooting scene, with long history of competition. Apex's first release will be the Rival 4-32x56 mm, which it's been developing for about 18 months. Apex partnered with Japan Optics to actually manufacture the scope, although it's designed here in Canuckistan. The scopes also undergo quality control testing in Japan, and a secondary round of quality control in Calgary. This scope has some unique features due to its design process, including Apex's proprietary CLR competition reticle. This first focal plane reticle is designed for long-range matches where shooters need their scope to handle quick transitions, with top half of the reticle unobstructed. It comes with ranging marks, for scenarios where you can't use electronic rangefinders, and has six-level illuminated main stadia. You can see a full explanation of the CLR reticle design at Apex's website. The scope also comes with elevation turret that features 15 MILs per revolution; windage and elevation adjustments are 0.1 MIL per click. The turrets are not locking, but come with mechanical zero stop and two-turn indicators (future scopes may come with locking turrets). There's a stainless steel pop-up turn indicator. Apex says it has the industry's first see-through integrated and removable throw lever. The new Rival scope has parallax knob indicators for approximate value for 100-, 200-, 500-, and 800-yard distances. There's a proprietary hydrophobic seven-layer multi-coated lens, and other features selected to give Apex's customers top performance.
