French Model 1874 T Back Sword Bayonet for use on the 11mm M1874 Gras rifle Manufactured at the French State Arms Plant of Tulle in August 1878 The Gras was the last of the French sword type bayonets and was manufactured from 1874 until about 1885. The Bayonet and Scabbard have matching Serial numbers 96363 The left side of the guard is engraved with what looks like half a written L and the numbers 96363.  The scabbard has the same mark and numbers on the left side. Above the number on the guard are 2 diamonds each with the letter B in them. The front of the guard just above the top of the blade has the letters L and P The pommel has the number 2 stamped inside at the base along with other stamps I have not identified. The top of the tang has what looks like a C6 stamped in it. The back of the blade is engraved with M d’Armes de Tulle Aout 1878   The Spring Lock works as designed.   Overall Length – with blade in scabbard  - 25 7/8” Length of Bayonet – 25 3/8” The blade has never been sharpened. British Pattern 1853 socket bayonet with leather scabbard and a frog This is a British M1853 Socket Bayonet for use with the Enfield, Snider, Martini rifles. This 1853 pattern was the standard bayonet carried by nearly every British infantryman of the mid-19th century and widely used during the Crimean War, Indian Mutiny, and in numerous colonial campaigns. Production of the1853 pattern socket bayonet continued throughout the life of the Enfield Muzzleloader and the Snider rifle and was finally terminated in 1875. The blade has a slight downward curve to allow easier reloading while fixed to the muzzle-loading Enfield rifle. Measuring 44 cm (17 inches), it features a triangular cross-section with fullers on all three sides, tapering to a narrow, down-turned point. Scabbard in good condition and includes a leather frog. The brass tip on the scabbard wiggles a bit but is still solidly attached. The scabbard is stamped W.D. (War Department) below the frog stud with the Broad Arrow symbol above the initials. WW1 French M1886 bayonet for the Lebel rifle. This is the war time simplified version without the quillion (hook) and with the brass handle. This version with the brass handle is of a type produced during the First World War, from the 25th of October 1914 until July of 1917.   The left side of the blade has the initials SG stamped just in front of the guard to identify the Maker.  The "S.G." mark on a French bayonet from the World War I era stands for Sutterlin Lippmann & Cie., a manufacturer located in Saint Étienne. The base of the guard has a stylized letter P with the number 45979 stamped into it. The scabbard has this matching serial number. The base of the grip has the number 11 stamped into it. Pre-WW1 British Pattern 1821 Canadian Artillery Officer's Sword – no Scabbard Savage and Lyman Montreal Sword This company name was used by the Montreal silversmiths Savage and Lyman between 1868-1878. The left side of the blade immediately in front of the guard Is marked Savage & Lyman Montreal Within the engraving on the left side is a Crown.  Believed to be indicative of Queen Victoria. The right side of the blade has a small brass insert which says PROOF.  Wilkinson Sword introduced these Proof Discs in 1844. In the engraving on the right side of the blade is the word ARTILLERY The guard is steel and has fish skin wire bound grips with most of the fish skin having been worn away.   Length of Sword – 40 1/2” Length of Grip including the Guard – 5 1/2” Blade Length – 34 1/2”   Savage & Lyman Montreal (or Savage & Lyman and Company) were manufacturers and suppliers of swords, known for military pattern swords like those for Canadian militia units (e.g., 1st Battalion Chasseurs Canadiens), marking them as producers/sellers, though like many firms, they likely had blades forged elsewhere (perhaps by specialists like J. Martin in Montreal) and then finished, hilted, proofed, and sold by Savage & Lyman in Montreal, a common practice for armsmakers then.  Key Points: Evidence of Manufacturing: Swords clearly marked "SAVAGE & LYMAN MONTREAL" exist in museum collections, showing they were a recognized name in arms. Role: They functioned as an arms dealer and supplier, customizing and selling weapons for Canadian military and militia. Production vs. Supply: While they might not have forged every single blade from raw steel in-house, they were responsible for the final product, including proofing and adding their own markings, as seen on a 1885 Chasseurs Canadiens sword. This is an original Japanese officer’s Samurai sword from World War 2 remounted in civil-styled samurai mounts. The blade is in Near MINT condition and the mountings are in Excellent condition. It is a healthy sword and has a blade length of 26.25 inches (67cm). The hada is a tight ko-itame. The hamon is a straight suguha hamon that is present the length of the blade ending in a maru boshi. The tang is signed Kinmichi. It is dated Showa Jyu Hachi Nen Roku Gatsu, or June 1943. Kinmichi was a member of the well-known Seki school that made many war era swords. The mountings are Civilian-styled and look to have been remounted on a sword that was initially intended for army usage. The mounts are in Excellent condition. The tsuka is wrapped in leather cord and looks to have been re-wrapped after the war with modern furniture. There is little to no fraying. The tsuba is iron with four accompanying seppa. The tsuba is a little loose. The saya (scabbard) is wood with a leather weathering cover. The leather cover is supple and well-aged, showing some cracking along the seams. The blade is in Near MINT condition. There are no nicks, little to no rust, and just a few scattered scratches along its length. There are no major flaws like hagire.

It is a healthy sword and has a blade length of 26.25 inches (67cm). The hada is a tight and visible itame. The hamon is a straight suguha hamon that is present the length of the blade ending in a maru boshi. The tang is signed Yoshimitsu. It is dated Showa Jyu Hachi Nen Shichi Gatsu, or July 1943. There is a Na acceptance stamp on the tang. Yoshimitsu was a member of the well-known Seki school that made many war era swords. The mountings are Type 98 Shin Gunto and in Near MINT condition. The tsuka is silk-cord wrapped with cherry blossom menuki. The wrapping is tight and there is little to no fraying. There is a blue/brown company officers tassel attached to the tsuka. The tsuba is the classic WW2 design with four accompanying metal seppas. The saya (scabbard) is green painted metal. It shows one very small dent and very few areas of missing finish, displaying roughly 98-99% original finish. There is a locking mechanism present. The blade is in Near MINT condition. There are no nicks, a few scattered small spots of rust, and some small scattered scratches. There are no major flaws like hagire.
