It features a cloth-covered cork shell (painted black), rubber side vents, a web suspension liner, leather chinstrap, and the distinctive leather “scrum” (headphone holder) laced and buttoned underneath for radio equipment. These were primarily used by tank crews in Canada (not issued overseas) and remained in service until the 1960s. Your example appears complete, with visible wear and patina consistent with age and use, including some cracking on the shell and scrum—common for these due to the materials. Selling/trading a Winchester Model 1895 in 303 Brit. Overall it's in nice shape. Made in 1907, 28" barrel. Steel is in good shape, colour on the receiver has faded to a nice patina, still has some darker colour on the barrel. Wood stocks are in good solid shape with normal bumps and marks here and there. Bore shows some light wear and is starting to darken but is still in shootable shape. Receiver has been drilled for a side mount of some kind, holes exposed was seen in pictures. British Pattern 1853 socket bayonet with leather scabbard and a frog This is a British M1853 Socket Bayonet for use with the Enfield, Snider, Martini rifles. This 1853 pattern was the standard bayonet carried by nearly every British infantryman of the mid-19th century and widely used during the Crimean War, Indian Mutiny, and in numerous colonial campaigns. Production of the1853 pattern socket bayonet continued throughout the life of the Enfield Muzzleloader and the Snider rifle and was finally terminated in 1875. The blade has a slight downward curve to allow easier reloading while fixed to the muzzle-loading Enfield rifle. Measuring 44 cm (17 inches), it features a triangular cross-section with fullers on all three sides, tapering to a narrow, down-turned point. Scabbard in good condition and includes a leather frog. The brass tip on the scabbard wiggles a bit but is still solidly attached. The scabbard is stamped W.D. (War Department) below the frog stud with the Broad Arrow symbol above the initials. This is a correct WW Suhler Consortium M98 rifle. It is my opinion this rifle was reworked by the German military for use in WWII given the original WWII German armorers replacement. It is in original condition with all parts visible numbers matching. No import mark is present. Triggergaurd is unnumnered however it shows an Imperial H woth crown on the magazine floorplate. The magazine follower is an original German armorer Wafdenampt stamped replacement part. Buttplate is correctly unnumbered. Rating Definition: Excellent. Rifle retains 90-95 % crisp original finish. Stock: The walnut stock is correct and serialized 4473 to the rifle in good condition with a crack on the front left side between the upper barrel band and rear barrel band. Note: Stock pictures in listing show what looks like a crack in the mid area of the buttstock however there is no evidence of this on either the pistol grip side of the buttplate side where the stock is cracked whatsoever. Additional pics can be taken to show this. I hypothesize that this is perhaps a shrinkage in the wood due to rifles age. Rifle shows typical handling marks. No evidence of sanding. Bore: Bore is good with very pronounced lands and grooves visible. Rifle shows a great crown and has a smooth chamber. Mechanically sound, the rifle is in excellent condition. The action functions as it should.
