This is a .22 competition target Vickers rifle made in the 1930s, some time between 1934 and 1939. It is a 44 1/2" long, quite heavy beast with the Vickers signature 'relieved' barrel-to-fore stock mounting, apparently to enhance the accuracy. It utilises the narrow, falling block, Martini-type action. The bore is bright and shiney, with crisp rifling. It has competion-type fore and rear sights. Overall it is in good to excellent shape. The only thing of note is that at some point a previous owner drilled a line of holes underneath the forestock, which have been filled. The images give an idea of the overall condition of the rifle. I have a very good condition vintage Winchester 1885 in .45 70 that I'm prepared to sell. It started out as a .38-55 and was sleeved to .22 l.r.. I had the 28 inch, half octagon, half round heavy barrel bored and rechambered by Ron K. Smith in Alberta to .45 70 and an aperture sight installed. As you would expect with an RKS barrel, it is accurate. It has correct walnut stocks, refinished, with the heavy crescent butt plate. The action wall has been reduced on the right side to more easily eject spent .22 l.r. shells; Mr. Smith assured me this does not reduce the strength of the action. The lever/trigger guard has been modified to make levering faster. I've got $2800 invested in this rifle which I'd like to recover. I'll split actual shipping costs with the buyer.
