The arrival of the main body of Indians in the early summer was one of the important events of the year at the posts along the shores of Hudson Bay. Andrew Graham, who was at York Factory for several years, has left us an eye-witness account of the elaborate ceremony that preceded the trading at York when the Indian canoe fleet arrived from the West. After they had landed at the fort and had been duly received by the governor (as the local officer in charge was known), the chief and his lieutenant were dressed up in European clothes and then escorted to the chief's lodge with much pageantry. "In front are the halberts and ensigns," writes Graham, "next to the drummer beating a march; then several of the Factory Servants bearing the bread, and prunes, pipes, brandy, tobacco, and the beaver coats of the chief, which he had on when admitted into the Factory. Then comes the Captain [chief] walking quite erect and stately, smoaking his pipe and conversing with the Governor and his officers; then follow the Lieutenant and perhaps a friend or two who was permitted to come in with the Chief." In the picture, the chief, attired in scarlet, with one red stocking and one blue, is seen walking with the governor in all his finery. Howdy Townpost. I have a really interesting piece for you here. This is a conversion of a conversion rifle. This is a German made Ludwig Loewe Gew 88 that was later converted by the Germans into a Gew 88/05 and most likely given to the Ottomans in WWI as war aid. Many of these were retained and later converted in the 1930's to a Mauser 1935 pattern type rifle. They converted a large portion of their arsenal to this pattern including SMLE's a plethora of their different Mausers, and Gew 88's they had in inventory. This rifle was rebarreled to shoot the modern 8mm Mauser cartridge and re-stocked into a more Mauser-esq stock. This stock features Mauser bolt disassembly disks despite them not being required for the Gew 88 action. The stock on this particular example had a fairly large wood defect that the Turks neglected to address has been fixed. It was cleaned out and filled with Brownells Acraglas epoxy so it's rock solid now. The overall condition is good. The stock was professionally refinished. The bore is excellent, very sharp and clean rifling. The rifle is located in Calgary AB for pickup or I can ship it nationwide on the buyer's dime. PAL will be verified as per C-71

Howdy Townpost! I've got a nice little uncommon and good condition subcompact Remington for sale now! This started its life as a Remington Model 1865 New Model Police as a cap and ball percussion revolver in .36 caliber. Many of these were never percussion guns as they existed in a weird transition period. And Remington made some of them from the ground up as cartridge guns. This one most likely was in inventory as a percussion revolver and was turned into a .38 rimfire cartridge revolver based on the serial number, in my opinion. These are one of the more rare and lesser known Remington cap and ball guns that were made. Remington only made 18,000 between 1865 and 1873. So they are relatively uncommon and scarce gun today. This is actually my personal favorite model of Remington percussion revolver they're a very handy subcompact-sized gun by today's standards they're bigger and much more comfortable in the hand in the grip than the pocket models but nice and light unlike the full size military .44s and they point very naturally. This particular example is in very good condition the nickel is a very high percentage of coverage some of the original silver plate is still visible on the trigger guard and some of the low areas. The color case hardening is still very colorful and defined on the hammer (pictured). The grips have been refinished but they are the originals. The wood grain is very interesting and beautiful in my opinion. The bore is in excellent condition especially for a Civil War era black powder firearm. This was likely carried in a police officer's holster and not fired much. It was well taken care of and the clean and good condition bore and chambres are reflection of that. The the mechanical function of this firearm is excellent as well. When I got the firearm it was actually in amazing condition to begin with and the mechanical function was perfect. It locks up and times perfectly. The hammer and the trigger pull are very crisp, light and smooth. And didn't require any adjustment, Remington did the job and they did it right the first time. The entire revolver has been taken apart and given a gunsmith's cleaning and was reassembled and lightly oiled. I came across a nice little Hunter leather holster at a gun show and found that it fit this gun very well so it's included as a freebie with the gun (pictured). Howdy Townpost! I have a truly amazing one of a kind piece here for sale. I bought this for myself in the US over a year ago and I had it professionally restored and fully repaired. I am now looking to sell it. John Forbes, of Liverpool, was gunmaker to His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, later King George IV. And according to my research made mostly dueling and target pistols, and some small pocket pistols for only 5 years. Those years being 1805-1810. He spelt his name with I or Iohn and later switched the spelling to a J or John based on public records and some of the other examples of his dueling pistols that have sold at auction. That makes this a very rare and finely made pistol. This pistol would have cost a small fortune at the time it was made. Oftentimes dueling pistols come in pairs but it was cheaper to buy just one if they were offered as a single, and should you encounter someone who has insulted your honor and you demand satisfaction from them, they can bring their own pistol to the duel. The engraving is extremely fine, intricate and skilled. It would have taken many dozens of hours to complete and it was all done by hand. The engraving features drums, banners and spears, floral patterns, sunbursts on the base plate and lock, and a pineapple in the front of the trigger guard, which symbolizes wealth and status. Because this gun is a percussion conversion of the original flintlock mechanism the percussion hammer is engraved in a different style by a different engraver in a more simple floral and fish mouth style of engraving with gold inlay. Every screw is engraved to look like a flower and the escutcheons are also each engraved like a wreath. Overall there is a lot of fine detail with some simpler and less detailed later additions on the percussion mechanism and one spot on the side plate. The gun features gold inlay on the hammer which largely worn away. There is silver inlay on the outside of the breach, and a sterling silver wreath styled band wrapped around the base of the grip and a sliver bead front sight. The ramrod tip (which is a replacement) is silver plated brass, so too are the front stock cap near the muzzle, the rod pipe, cross key, and escutcheon around it are too. The grip baseplate is silver plated steel. The workmanship of this pistol is certainly of a quality of gunmaker worthy enough of being the gun maker of the Prince of Wales. This one is in excellent original condition. it is "in the white", meaning it has never been blued or plated. It is not pitted, and all the markings are sharp and complete. The serial numbers are repeated on all components: the barrel, cylinder, frame, grips, internal mechanism parts and even the screw heads and escutcheons. Everything matches. The bore of the 4 1/2 inch barrel is as perfect and it is mirror bright and the rifling is sharp. The action is excellent and accurate, and the cylinder indexes and locks properly. The walnut grips are excellent and show no damage this one looks like new. SN G47715, manufactured in 1886, rated excellent overall. After the disastrous loss to Prussia in the war of 1870, the French military closely examined its armaments and small arms, and they came to the conclusion that a new, more rugged and powerful side arm for their infantry was required. The result was the Mle 1873, designed by the famous partners of Chamelot & Delvigne, whose genius ideas would dominate much of the European military (and commercial) small arms market for decades to come. Many European countries adopted their designs, including Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, Russia and Belgium. Only the Brits and Germans would continue to develop their own side arms.

H&A was in business until 1915, and claimed to be the "largest manufacturers of high-grade, popular priced firearms in the world". Hopkins & Allen were well known for their pocket revolvers and Merwin & Hulbert branded large-frame revolvers. H&A are generally of a better quality and workmanship than other suicide specials.

These sniper rifles were based on hand selected No. 4 rifles and saw service with Commonwealth forces during WWII and into the 1960s. In addition to the rifle's standard protected blade front sight and ladder rear, Scope is a No. 32 Mk. II OS. 1650A & mounted on a quick detach base. Scope is dated 1944 and numbered "15803"which is matched to the rifle with the same number force matched on the wrist(see photo). Cast scope base is a high quality reproduction(Roger Payne replica) and was Matched 3522 to same as on the bolt and rifle. Walnut stock with cheek piece, "S51" also stamped behind the grip indicating the rifle is a wartime conversion by famed gunmaker Holland & Holland. CONDITION: Very Good. Metal retains the vast majority of its arsenal applied finishes with some fading. Stocks show small nicks and impressions throughout as is to be expected on military issue arms. Good, strong grooves and bright bore. Scope is original and is still very clear for it age. Also included as an original green metal scope case for securing the scope.
