The M1914 has a swell-point blade profile, where the blade is wider at the point than at the ricasso. The 1914 blade is fullered on only one side. The right side of the blade has the initials HS stamped immediately in front of the guard for the Maker Hans Steimer With the Swiss proof mark stamped below the initials. The back of the blade has an aggressive saw blade which starts 1” in front of the guard and extends to 14” from the guard. The right side of the guard has the number 478681 stamped in it. The release button works as designed. The scabbard is in good condition with the original leather attachment strap included. This bayonet was manufactured by Paillard with their mark stamped on the end of the scabbard. Overall Length – with blade in scabbard - 25” Length of Bayonet – 23 7/8” Length of Grip including the Guard – 5” Blade Length – 19 3/4” The M1914 was issued to select troops. Frank Wesson Single-Shot Pistol, .32 RF Short/Long RARE Frank Wesson, elder brother to Daniel Baird Wesson of S&W fame was an accomplished gunmaker when Daniel was still a boy. The two younger Wessons would apprentice with their oldest brother Edwin, and learn much of their expertise from this talented and versatile master. Frank would move to California in the 1850's, probably lured by the opportunities presented by the gold rush, making and repairing guns for the local needs. By 1859 he had moved back to Worceater where he set up shop in his own name. Frank is best known for his fine rifles, "bicycle rifles", deringers and single-shot pistols. Frank Wesson never ventured into the revolver market until he had partnered with his nephew Gilbert Harrington to form Wesson & Harrington. The revolver making business continued to evolve as Wesson & Harrington first, and then Harrington & Richardson.​ This is Frank Wesson's "medium frame" single-shot pistol, chambered in .32 rim fire. It is in excellent condition, with original blue. The little lever on the bottom of the frame releases the barrel lock when the hammer is in the safety position, and the barrel snaps open as it should. It will not open if the hammer is down, or fully cocked. The bore of the3 5/8 inch barrel is excellent and bright, with sharp rifling. The rosewood grips are very fine. This is an early model of the first variant, of which only about 1000 were ever made. SN 54, excellent overall.

The the serial numbers match . The action is strong and accurate, and the cylinder indexes and locks properly. The bore of the 6-inch barrel is quite good, with strong rifling. The black hard rubber grips are good and undamaged. Mechanically in excellent condition with proper timing and lockup. The latch is also solid with zero play. Extractor works as it should. SN 5819, very good overall. History & Background Smith and Wesson's first double action design dates back to at least 1872 - years before Colt ever attempted a double action cartridge revolver. It was mentioned in a letter to the Russian envoy General Orlof, and although the sale to Russia never materialized, it served to pave the way for the very popular and successful line of double action top break revolvers. The .44 Russian model was actually the first to be produced as a prototype, and the last to be released for sale to the public. For this reason there exists a degree of confusion over the proper terminology: the first one to be manufactured for sale was the .38 caliber model, followed by the .32. The .44 caliber model was not released until 1881, and is variably known as the No. 3 Double Action, the Double Action "Navy" (a name Daniel Wesson wanted to keep alive to differentiate this model from the No. 3 single action, and still holding out hope to sell it to the Russian navy), and the First Model Double Action. Originally, the .44 Double Action was made with a 1 7/16 inch cylinder, however an optional .44-40 version was available as of 1886. This required a 1 9/16 inch cylinder, and a longer frame. The firm soon realized that it was too expensive and cumbersome to manufacture two different sizes of frames for what was essentially the same gun, and the shorter cylinder and frame were dropped in favour of the longer one in the early 1890's. The No. 3 frame .44 double action top breaks were dropped from the Smith and Wesson catalogue in 1913.

After the disastrous loss to Prussia in the war of 1870, the French military closely examined its armaments and small arms, and they came to the conclusion that a new, more rugged and powerful side arm for their infantry was required. The result was the Mle 1873, designed by the famous partners of Chamelot & Delvigne, whose genius ideas would dominate much of the European military (and commercial) small arms market for decades to come. The four types, No. 1 through 4, are all similar in their use of a two-part frame which is joined just above the grip. This one is the No. 4, which resembles the popular "Bulldogs" of the day. SN 21108, excellent overall.​​ History & Background Like Colt, Remington had to get into the cartridge pocket revolver market by sheer public pressure. They, too, like Colt, experienced difficulties trying to compete with the cheap "suicide specials" which were available at that same time. Although sales were brisk at first, and the guns enjoyed great popularity due to their excellent quality, in the long run the public opted for cheap over quality, and by the mid 1880's production of the smaller models was halted. The Smoot patent refers to the spring-loaded cylinder pin / extractor found on the New Model No. 1, 2 and 3. Remington was well known to acquire the patents of other designers and incorporating them into their own line of products, and into the name of the models. Inventors such as Beals, Elliot, Rider and Smoot all contributed to the success of Remington handguns.

The nitre blue on the trigger, hammer and screw heads is well visible. The action is smooth and accurate, and the cylinder indexes and locks properly. The bore of the 4.5 inch barrel is fine and bright, with sharp rifling. The markings are sharp and defined throughout. The assembly numbers match on the cylinder, crane, barrel and frame. The grips are excellent and undamaged, showing no wear.SN 20959, rated excellent overall.​​ History & Background This model is an important milestone in Colt handgun development, as it is the first American revolver with a swing-out cylinder mounted on a crane, a development which would become the standard for modern revolvers to this day. The 1889 cylinder mechanism was already "on the books" as early as 1880, based on designs of Colt engineers William Mason, C.J Ehbets and Horace Lord. It would take almost ten years for Colt executives to give the green light to manufacture this gun, and once it was available, the US government quickly took notice and ordered several thousand for the Navy. Colt adopted the name "New Navy" in honor of this order. The gun has an interesting counter-clockwise cylinder rotation and a locking mechanism which relies entirely on the two-pronged hand. This would prove to be a weakness in the design, and by 1892 locking lugs on the outside of the cylinder were introduced. The 1889 model would remain in production for 18 years, with significant improvements in 1892, 94, 95, 96, 1901 and 1903. When it was first introduced in 1889, it met with no competition from the other major makers - Smith & Wesson were still heavily engaged in manufacturing top-break revolvers, and Remington only had their solid frame revolvers with removable cylinders to offer. It would take S&W another ten years before they had a viable alternative to Colt's design.

Founded in 1868 by the principals Charles Converse, Charles and Samuel Hopkins, and Charles Allen, the firm assumed the assets of the Bacon Manufacturing Company. H&A used Bacon's machinery and inventory of parts, and continued at first to make Bacon's various models before switching to cartridge revolvers and later rifles and shot guns. H&A was in business until 1915, and claimed to be the "largest manufacturers of high-grade, popular priced firearms in the world". Hopkins & Allen were well known for their pocket revolvers and Merwin & Hulbert branded large-frame revolvers. H&A are generally of a better quality and workmanship than other suicide specials.

Iver Johnson "American Bull Dog", .38 RF short and long Revolver Iver Johnson was one of the most prolific makers of pocket revolvers in America, from 1871 to nearly the present. One of the earliest makers of bulldog-type, double action revolvers, the Iver Johnson American Bull Dog is well known and in demand. These were made by Johnson's and the relief grip showing the American eagle on a shield is typical of Johnson's ware. ​ This one is in very fine to excellent condition, with 99% original nickel. The action is accurate and strong, and the cylinder indexes and locks properly with no play. The bore of the 2 1/2-inch barrel is good with strong rifling throughout. The black hard-rubber grips are excellent and undamaged. SN 2407, excellent overall. History & Background Iver Johnson (1841-1895) was a Norwegian gunsmith who came from Bergen to America in 1863. He found work immediately at Ethan Allen's factory in Worcester, Mass. where he met Martin Bye. Johnson worked at Allen's through the civil war years, as demand for firearms was high, and work was plentiful. By 1871 Johnson and Bye had decided to venture out on their own and founded Johnson Bye & Co. in Worcester, moving to Fitchburg by 1891. In 1883 Martin Bye left the company, selling his interest to Iver. The company name was changed to its most famous form, "Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works, Fitchburg, Mass.", a name it would retain until the outbreak of the First World War. Iver Johnson did not only produce a large variety of firearms, they were also famous for their excellent quality bicycles and motorcycles. The company would remain in business until 1993. The name was "revived" in 2006 and the brand is still used today.

This one looks like a little brother of S&W open top 44 Russian revolver (look at the last picture) This is an antique Harrington & Richardson 6-shot Automatic Ejecting Revolver, chambered in 6 shots of 32 H&R Long (a now obsolete black powder cartridge) but fully compatible with 32 S&W long/short. It is a 1st Model 2nd Variation. There is external ejector button on the underside of the barrel-frame hinge that can be used to manually return the ejector. Full serial number marked on underside of barrel top strap as 09626. Frame is marked with last four digits of serial number (9626) under the grips. Three digits of assembly number (487) marked on cylinder and extractor. Mechanically functions very good. Single action is not disabled and double action functions very well. Timing is strong, with minimal play on the chambers with the trigger fully depressed. Ejector and manual ejector button work perfectly. Barrel snaps shut strongly, and the cylinder release latch button also functions perfectly as designed. Bore has strong rifling all the way trough the barrel.

It is characterized by the button-type barrel release and ejector mounted between the barrels. It is chambered for the .32 rim fire cartridge. The gun is in excellent condition, with original blue intact and the case colors on the frame. The markings are sharp and clear. This is a unique variant with a floating, internal firing pin which rotates a quarter turn with each cocking of the hammer and these are rarely encountered. The 4 bores are good with strong rifling all the way. The black gutta percha grips are excellent and undamaged. SN 5822, excellent overall. Christian Sharps (1811-1874) was one of the best-known firearms designers and manufacturers of the 19th century. Although he never achieved the volumes of Colt, S&W and Remington, Christian Sharps was a major supplier of long arms to the Union during the civil war. His carbines are iconic among civil war collectors. Sharps sporting rifles were extremely popular at the time, and still fetch premium prices to this day. Christian Sharps had a rocky and sometimes acrimonious relationship with his managers and partners, and would leave the Hartford firm in 1853, returning to Philadelphia. There, he formed a new company in 1854, called C. Sharps & Co. He manufactured pepperboxes and single-shot pistols, while the Sharps Rifle Co. continued with long arms. In 1862, Christian Sharps formed "Sharps & Hankins", in partnership with William Hankins, who had sold his own plant to William Uhlinger. Sharps & Hankins would continue until 1866, producing their four-barrel pepperboxes, single shot pistols, and military grade long arms in competition with his former company in Hartford. Soon after the war, the partnership was dissolved, and Sharps would go back to his previous name of C. Sharps & Co. He continued to manufacture the four-barrel pepperboxes until 1874, when the firm was dissolved after his death.

SN 13745, excellent overall. ​ History & Background Sullivan Forehand was an employee of Ethan Allen, the famous New England gunmaker. In 1860 he worked in an administrative capacity when he met his future wife - Allen's daughter - at work, and after marrying into the family became a partner in the business. Henry Wadsworth, an officer in the union army, met another of Allen's daughters while still in service during the war, and married into the family as well. Upon his discharge from the army, Wadsworth joined the company which was renamed "Ethan Allen & Co." After Allen's death in 1871, the two sons-in-law took over the firm and renamed it "Forehand & Wadsworth. They would become well known especially for their bulldogs, but also their many fine pocket and large-frame revolvers, single-shot deringers and pistols. Forehand & Wadsworth remained in business until 1890 when Henry Wadsworth retired and Sullivan renamed the company "Forehand Arms". After Sullivan's death in 1898 the company foundered and was taken over by Hopkins & Allen in 1902.

Swiss M1882 Service Revolver, 7.5mm/ 32 S&W Swiss Ordnance The Swiss Service Revolver of 1882 was a modification of the Nagant revolver in use since 1878. It was modified by Swiss Colonel Rudolf Schmidt. It employs the Georges Abati cylinder advance system, by which the cylinder can be advanced without raising the hammer when the loading gate is open. This allows the shooter to load and unload the cylinder quickly, without having to touch the hammer. The gun is of typical Swiss quality, with clock-like precision.​ This one is in very fine condition, as restored. The blue is intact. The markings and numbers are sharp. The serial numbers match. There are also several sub-assembly numbers visible. The action is strong and accurate, and the cylinder indexes and locks properly. The bore of the 4 1/2 inch barrel is good, with sharp rifling and no signs of use. The gun is chambered for the Swiss 7.5mm cartridge, but will accept a .32 S&W long/short as well. The black hard rubber grips are very good and undamaged. SN 82458. ​ History & Background The M1877 was Colt's first double action revolver. Colt insisted on inventing their own double action mechanism, partly because there were numerous patents for DA revolvers in effect, which Colt did not want to infringe upon, but also because they trusted their chief engineers William Mason and C.B. Richards to come up with an original design. For this reason, the M1877's action is like a Swiss clock: it is somewhat convoluted and complicated, and it has earned the nickname "the gunsmith's favorite" over time. The gun did enjoy tremendous popularity however, and was manufactured for 32 years, even after Colt had improved the mechanism and simplified it considerably in later years. The M1877 was available in three calibers - .32, .38 and .41, and was originally called "Lightning". Later collectors coined the name "Rainmaker" for the .32 and "Thunderer" for the .41. In Canada, only the .41 caliber gun with serial numbers below 107,000 is considered an antique, as the others are either exempt calibers, or made after January 1, 1898.

The .44 Russian round was known for its incredible accuracy and when combined with the fast reload time of the top break auto ejection system that Smith & Wesson designed it made their revolvers far superior to anything else on the market. SN 26203.​ ​​ History & Background Smith and Wesson's first double action design dates back to at least 1872 - years before Colt ever attempted a double action cartridge revolver. It was mentioned in a letter to the Russian envoy General Orlof, and although the sale to Russia never materialized, it served to pave the way for the very popular and successful line of double action top break revolvers. The .44 Russian model was actually the first to be produced as a prototype, and the last to be released for sale to the public. For this reason there exists a degree of confusion over the proper terminology: the first one to be manufactured for sale was the .38 caliber model, followed by the .32. The .44 caliber model was not released until 1881, and is variably known as the No. 3 Double Action, the Double Action "Navy" (a name Daniel Wesson wanted to keep alive to differentiate this model from the No. 3 single action, and still holding out hope to sell it to the Russian navy), and the First Model Double Action. Originally, the .44 Double Action was made with a 1 7/16 inch cylinder, however an optional .44-40 version was available as of 1886. This required a 1 9/16 inch cylinder, and a longer frame. The firm soon realized that it was too expensive and cumbersome to manufacture two different sizes of frames for what was essentially the same gun, and the shorter cylinder and frame were dropped in favour of the longer one in the early 1890's. The No. 3 frame .44 double action top breaks were dropped from the Smith and Wesson catalogue in 1913.

Colt M1892 "New Army" Revolver has significant improvements over M1889 with better locking and indexing mechanism. This one is in excellent condition. It bears about all of its original blue finish. The nitre blue on the trigger and hammer is well visible. The action is strong and accurate, and the cylinder indexes and locks properly. The bore of the 4 1/2 inch barrel is fine with good rifling. The markings are sharp and defined throughout. Extractor working as it should. The assembly numbers on the cylinder, crane and frame. The grips are good and undamaged, showing no wear.​​ History & Background This model is an important milestone in Colt handgun development, as it is the first American revolver with a swing-out cylinder mounted on a crane, a development which would become the standard for modern revolvers to this day. The 1889 cylinder mechanism was already "on the books" as early as 1880, based on designs of Colt engineers William Mason, C.J Ehbets and Horace Lord. It would take almost ten years for Colt executives to give the green light to manufacture this gun, and once it was available, the US government quickly took notice and ordered several thousand for the Navy. Colt adopted the name "New Navy" in honor of this order. The gun has an interesting counter-clockwise cylinder rotation and a locking mechanism which relies entirely on the two-pronged hand.The 1889 model would remain in production for 18 years, with significant improvements in 1892, 94, 95, 96, 1901 and 1903. When it was first introduced in 1889, it met with no competition from the other major makers - Smith & Wesson were still heavily engaged in manufacturing top-break revolvers, and Remington only had their solid frame revolvers with removable cylinders to offer. It would take S&W another ten years before they had a viable alternative to Colt's design.
