A SHORT HISTORY OF THE PRODUCTION OF 10,200 RIFLES IS GIVEN BELOW: . In 1975, the Dawson City Historical Society authorized Winchester to produce the Klondike Gold Rush Commemorative Rifle. This special rifle commemorates the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898 and features an extended forearm and a straight-grip stock made of satin-finished American walnut. The buttstock is square-combed and features a gold-finished wrap-around buttplate. Appears to be brand new, but it may have been tested. The round barrel is inscribed with "Klondike Commemorative" in gold finish and accented with gold-plated barrel bands. The front sight consists of a ramp and hood, with a semi-buckhorn in the rear. On the left side of the gold-plated receiver, there is an engraving of a prospector panning for gold, along with the inscription "The Great Gold Strike 1896." The right side of the receiver features a pickaxe and a pan of gold nuggets with the inscription "Bonanza · Eldorado · Hunter Creek." "The upper tang is inscribed with, "Model 1894 Winchester." A gold-plated medallion depicting three prospectors with packs climbing a mountain is embedded on the right side of the buttstock. This is a classic Mauser rifle (M98 Mauser Action) with an extremely smooth action. The bore is in excellent condition, and the rifle shoots very well. Open Sights Are Still in Place. I'm downsizing my collection, and this rifle is located in Scotch Creek, BC. The rifle has a very nice custom full-length stock with a raised cheekpiece that shows some handling marks. The barrel length is 24 ½ inches, and the overall condition is rated 8/10. The cartridge is known as 7.92x57 and 8 mm (more commonly known as 8 mm Mauser or 8x57). Both designations refer to the same cartridge, with "7.92x57" being the military metric designation used by Germany and "8mm" being the most common shorthand name used by civilian shooters in North America.
