Colt M1889 "Navy", .41 Long Colt Revolver This one is in excellent condition. It bears about o 99% of its original nickel plating. The nitre blue on the trigger, hammer and screw heads is well visible. The action is smooth and accurate, and the cylinder indexes and locks properly. The bore of the 4.5 inch barrel is fine and bright, with sharp rifling. The markings are sharp and defined throughout. The assembly numbers match on the cylinder, crane, barrel and frame. The grips are excellent and undamaged, showing no wear.SN 20959, rated excellent overall.​​ History & Background This model is an important milestone in Colt handgun development, as it is the first American revolver with a swing-out cylinder mounted on a crane, a development which would become the standard for modern revolvers to this day. The 1889 cylinder mechanism was already "on the books" as early as 1880, based on designs of Colt engineers William Mason, C.J Ehbets and Horace Lord. It would take almost ten years for Colt executives to give the green light to manufacture this gun, and once it was available, the US government quickly took notice and ordered several thousand for the Navy. Colt adopted the name "New Navy" in honor of this order. The gun has an interesting counter-clockwise cylinder rotation and a locking mechanism which relies entirely on the two-pronged hand. This would prove to be a weakness in the design, and by 1892 locking lugs on the outside of the cylinder were introduced. The 1889 model would remain in production for 18 years, with significant improvements in 1892, 94, 95, 96, 1901 and 1903. When it was first introduced in 1889, it met with no competition from the other major makers - Smith & Wesson were still heavily engaged in manufacturing top-break revolvers, and Remington only had their solid frame revolvers with removable cylinders to offer. It would take S&W another ten years before they had a viable alternative to Colt's design.

Sharps & Hankins "No. 3 C" Four-Barrel Pepperbox, .32 Caliber Rim Fire , SCARCE This one is a Sharps & Hankins four-barrel pepperbox classified as a "Model 3C". It is characterized by the button-type barrel release and ejector mounted between the barrels. It is chambered for the .32 rim fire cartridge. The gun is in excellent condition, with original blue intact and the case colors on the frame. The markings are sharp and clear. This is a unique variant with a floating, internal firing pin which rotates a quarter turn with each cocking of the hammer and these are rarely encountered. The 4 bores are good with strong rifling all the way. The black gutta percha grips are excellent and undamaged. SN 5822, excellent overall. Christian Sharps (1811-1874) was one of the best-known firearms designers and manufacturers of the 19th century. Although he never achieved the volumes of Colt, S&W and Remington, Christian Sharps was a major supplier of long arms to the Union during the civil war. His carbines are iconic among civil war collectors. Sharps sporting rifles were extremely popular at the time, and still fetch premium prices to this day. Christian Sharps had a rocky and sometimes acrimonious relationship with his managers and partners, and would leave the Hartford firm in 1853, returning to Philadelphia. There, he formed a new company in 1854, called C. Sharps & Co. He manufactured pepperboxes and single-shot pistols, while the Sharps Rifle Co. continued with long arms. In 1862, Christian Sharps formed "Sharps & Hankins", in partnership with William Hankins, who had sold his own plant to William Uhlinger. Sharps & Hankins would continue until 1866, producing their four-barrel pepperboxes, single shot pistols, and military grade long arms in competition with his former company in Hartford. Soon after the war, the partnership was dissolved, and Sharps would go back to his previous name of C. Sharps & Co. He continued to manufacture the four-barrel pepperboxes until 1874, when the firm was dissolved after his death.

Purchased new in 2014 and shot 40 times cleaned and left in storage since. While hunting the back nipple that holds the shoulder strap broke. The bolt was lost during storage and the one seen in the picture is from a 710 Remington 30-06 this 30-06 is a Remington Model 770. *Sold* Parting with my Colt 1878 revolver. She's single and double action, chambered in .476 Eley which is interchangeable with .455 Webley. These revolvers were most commonly chambered in .44-40 Winchester and dubbed the "Frontier Model", with the .476 chambering being very scarce. They were introduced in 1878 as a larger frame, larger caliber twist on the new Colt 1877 Thunderer/Lightning model, filling a niche most similar to the 1873 Single Action Army, but this time in double action as well. Selling to clear up some moolah for car repairs. Pre-1898 Canada legal antique. This revolver was made in 1885. It has the desirable Pall Mall one line address on the barrel reading "COLT’S PT.F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. DEPOT 14. PALL MALL LONDON" with most words still visible. This address is a rarity and was only put on guns intended for the European markets. Serials match 15xxx, with the last 3 digits stamped on the cylinder. The loading gate is a replacement. This gorgeous revolver has an extremely nice black finish with shiny nickeled highlights on the hammer, trigger, and hammer screw. The visual condition speaks for itself. A stunning piece sure to catch eyes, and assurance that the metal will remain protected. The rifling is still strong and defined, showing some scattered frosting. The grips appear original, and are sturdy with minor holster wear on the high points from time on the hip. The action is great. The internals are shiny in factory condition. The cylinder locks up airtight at firing position. I have never seen an 1878 or 1877 with tighter lockup. In the unique fashion of the 1878 model design, this revolver has no cylinder stop allowing slight backrotation when you disengage the action, but it still generally cycles. The loading gate is a bit wobbly, contributing to backrotation. Remington-Smoot New Model No. 4, .38 Rim Fire Pocket Revolver. The design of the "New Model" Line of Remington revolvers is based on a patent issued to William S. Smoot in 1873. The four types, No. 1 through 4, are all similar in their use of a two-part frame which is joined just above the grip. This one is the No. 4, which resembles the popular "Bulldogs" of the day. It is in excellent condition with original nickel . The action is strong and accurate, and the cylinder indexes and locks properly with no play. The bore of the 2 1/2 inch barrel is excellent and bright, with sharp rifling. The black hard-rubber grips are very fine and undamaged. SN 21108, excellent overall.​​ History & Background Like Colt, Remington had to get into the cartridge pocket revolver market by sheer public pressure. They, too, like Colt, experienced difficulties trying to compete with the cheap "suicide specials" which were available at that same time. Although sales were brisk at first, and the guns enjoyed great popularity due to their excellent quality, in the long run the public opted for cheap over quality, and by the mid 1880's production of the smaller models was halted. The Smoot patent refers to the spring-loaded cylinder pin / extractor found on the New Model No. 1, 2 and 3. Remington was well known to acquire the patents of other designers and incorporating them into their own line of products, and into the name of the models. Inventors such as Beals, Elliot, Rider and Smoot all contributed to the success of Remington handguns.
