This is a Tranter Model 1863 Single Action Revolver Chambered in .455 centre fire. The majority of the model 1863’s were a double action with only a few hundred being produced in single action. Approximate serial number range for the single actions are between 4000 to 4500. This item being serial number 4010 would make it one of the first to be made of this model. The single actions were mostly produced in .442 rimfire, it is not known how many were produced in centre fire making this even more rare. This item has a 6-1/2” barrel with Cogswell & Harrison London retailer address engraved into it. Birmingham proof marks can be found on the barrel and frame. The firearm retains around 85% of the original finish. The checkered walnut grips are in excellent condition with a few very light dings. Mechanically it is in excellent condition and functions as it should. This is a very attractive English revolver that would fit well with any antique collection. this is an antique to no PAL is required for purchase. Buyer must be 18 or older and able to prove it. This is a Rare Antique Remington Early Production Type I, A.K.A. The Double Derringer. Remington produced around 150000 model 95’s between 1866 and 1935. There were only around 1600 produced before the addition of an extractor. Making this one the hardest to find for collectors. This type is marked “E.Remington & Sons, Ilion, N.Y.” on one side of the barrel rib and “Elliot’s Patent Dec. 12, 1865” on the other. Later models would see the addition of an extractor and the barrel address moved to the top rib. This has a 3” barrel, is chambered in .41 rimfire and has a spur trigger. There are a a few light handling dings and almost no original finish left. The grips are in fine condition. Mechanically it is still very strong with the action working and cycling as it should. The hinges are intact. There is a slight play in the lock up which would be a fraction of a millimeter. These were carried by many people in the Wild West as they were easily concealed. Wild Bill Hickok is said to have carried a pair of these at times. This would make a great addition to a Remington collection and could be the centre piece to any collection. this is an antique so no PAL is required for purchase.
