French Model 1874 T Back Sword Bayonet for use on the 11mm M1874 Gras rifle Manufactured at the French State Arms Plant of Tulle in August 1878 The Gras was the last of the French sword type bayonets and was manufactured from 1874 until about 1885. The Bayonet and Scabbard have matching Serial numbers 96363 The left side of the guard is engraved with what looks like half a written L and the numbers 96363.  The scabbard has the same mark and numbers on the left side. Above the number on the guard are 2 diamonds each with the letter B in them. The front of the guard just above the top of the blade has the letters L and P The pommel has the number 2 stamped inside at the base along with other stamps I have not identified. The top of the tang has what looks like a C6 stamped in it. The back of the blade is engraved with M d’Armes de Tulle Aout 1878   The Spring Lock works as designed.   Overall Length – with blade in scabbard  - 25 7/8” Length of Bayonet – 25 3/8” The blade has never been sharpened. *Price reduction fro a quick sale* This is a High Condition 1944 BSA selected to be upgraded into a "T" pattern sniper rifle with correct "TR" marking on the left side of receiver ring. These sniper rifles were based on hand selected No. 4 rifles and saw service with Commonwealth forces during WWII and into the 1960s. In addition to the rifle's standard protected blade front sight and ladder rear, Scope is a No. 32 Mk. II OS. 1650A & mounted on a quick detach base. Scope is dated 1944 and numbered "15803"which is matched to the rifle with the same number force matched on the wrist(see photo). Cast scope base is a high quality reproduction(Roger Payne replica) and was Matched 3522 to same as on the bolt and rifle. Walnut stock with cheek piece, "S51" also stamped behind the grip indicating the rifle is a wartime conversion by famed gunmaker Holland & Holland. CONDITION: Very Good. Metal retains the vast majority of its arsenal applied finishes with some fading. Stocks show small nicks and impressions throughout as is to be expected on military issue arms. Good, strong grooves and bright bore. Scope is original and is still very clear for it age. Also included as an original green metal scope case for securing the scope.
