This, the infamous rifle that was said to be the most accurate and well built for it's time, it's more known for causing the deaths of tens of thousands of Canadians and the other countries that adopted this rifle for the reason of fighting in the trenches WW1 and would get sand/mud ECT in the bolt action though it was so well made the precision and delicate machining of this had it opened to jamming, and when our troops ran into this under fire, to clean it out was time consuming, I bought this back around early 2000's for the purpose of giving it to a museum that has my great grandfather's war memorial, the plan changed a while back and looking to downsize, I don't use it for any purpose and has been locked up for years. Hi everyone, I have a very nice 1945 RCMP (MP) Number 4 mark I* in .303 for sale. As you may know these are a fairly rare rifle and don’t come up for sale that often. This one is in great condition with a few handling marks. It is currently a little grubby from storage, but I’ll be cleaning it up shortly. Length: SMLE No. 1 Mk III: 44.57 in (1,132 mm) Barrel length: SMLE No. 1 Mk III: 25.2 in (640 mm) In late 1915 the Mk III* was introduced incorporating several changes, the most prominent of which were the deletion of the magazine cut-off mechanism, which when engaged permits the feeding and extraction of single cartridges only while keeping the cartridges in the magazine in reserve, and the long-range volley sights. The windage adjustment of the rear sight was also dispensed with, and the cocking piece was changed from a round knob to a serrated slab. Rifles with some or all of these features present are found, as the changes were implemented at different times in different factories and as stocks of parts were depleted. The magazine cut-off was reinstated after the First World War ended, and not entirely dispensed with in manufacturing until 1933.
