Price drop from 3650 Dec 1! This is an incredibly rare antique Unwin & Rodgers NON-XLL folding knife pistol from the mid-1800s, chambered in a 28 caliber rimfire. Based on dimensions it should accept 25 Stevens rimfire. This is a pocket knife to put all Swiss Army knives to shame, packing a big punch with a folding trigger single action handgun. It is a very collectible piece, and hard to come by in this condition. It would have probably been owned or given as a gift to a relatively wealthy businessman as an elegant approach to utility and self defense. In the 1841 Sheffield trade directory, Unwin and Rodgers advertised themselves as “manufacturers of spring knife cutlery, including lancets, scissor knives and pen machines, pistol knives, American and Indian hunting and self-defense knives.” The theory is that the NON*XLL markings, when read aloud, translate into the phrase “Non-excel,” signifying that the Unwin and Rodgers knife pistol had no peers. This British made knife pistol is in beautiful condition, with the steel in amazing condition on both the blades and the barrel also. It has carved horn grips, a beautiful shiny barrel, and an even sheen on the knives with no rust. Where many old knives have been sharpened and worn down over the decades, the blade profiles are still original and incredibly sharp. The left grip has a small crack where the rivets are, but it is still very stable and solid. It has multiple Birmingham proofs, and is signed on both blades. The trigger and both knives fold and unfold very cleanly. It is about 10 inches long when the knives are opened. The mainspring is very strong, and all functions correctly in the action and ejector. It has a storage compartment for keeping shells, cleaning patches, and spent casings. The blades are in fantastic shape, especially at over 160 years old. Here's a pretty rare one for you. It's a Shiloh 1863 Sharps infantry rifle made in the early days when Shiloh was in Farmingdale NY. They don't make this model anymore. The fellow I bought it from purchased it in the late 70s, and said he never did anything more than hold it from time to time and oil it well. It is a .54 caliber with a 30" blued barrel and adjustable ladder sight marked up to 800 yds. The stock is a nice nice piece of walnut with 13 3/4" length of pull and a case coloured steel patchbox. The case colouring on the metal parts is amazing, with some really beautiful colours and patterns shining through. The rifle comes with an adjustable leather sling and some bullets with paper cartridges. Also included is an Eras Gone custom ringtail Sharps bullet mold. This mold was designed for the utmost accuracy with these rifles, and the bullets can be used with loose powder, or with cardboard tubes or traditional paper cartridges tied/glued to the bullet. I also have about 160 musket caps and Swiss 1.5fg powder I can include for local pick up. It is in pristine unfired condition. The only minor issue is a small dent in the forestock which I've included a picture of. I would like $3500 or best offer with local pick up or shipping on the buyer's dime. With my cast bullets and Lee 41 Swiss full length sizing die sized brass cases, you can hand seat the bullet, then use Lee 41 Swiss seating die with seating stem removed to give the loaded round a very firm and consistent crimp at the first groove from the bottom ( the seater will clear the bullet instead of the case mouth), by feeling that the case mouth brass is crashed a little bit ( it is ok that the bullet might be turned by hand inside the case mouth after crimping, but it would be firmly seated, won't be pulled out by hand)，don't go too much，too much crimp might cause the case mouth bumping up too much and you might encounter difficulty to chamber especially with those Vetterlis with tighter chamber. Photo 5 & 6 show that the right one was hand seated before crimping, the left one was properly crimped, and the abovementioned cast bullet. FYI only, use it at your own risk: I found using the recommended charge from the internet of 11 grains of Trail Boss to be around 2200 fps and kicks hard，eventually I reduced the charge to 7 grains of Trail Boss to achieve around 1400 fps, very close to Vetterli designed velocity and very mild and pleasant kicks, no grease cookies, no wads needed. I rendered that the 11 grains of Trail Boss charge was gained from improperly reloaded rounds not using heeled bullets and not getting proper crimp. I did tests with Tripple 7 also, found the data on the internet is way too much also, I got 1900 fps muzzle velocity reducing the charge to 24 grains by weight of Tripple 7, which is only half full of case capacity！I did not go further experimenting with Tripple 7, cause I got very good results with Trail Boss, and I did not enjoy cleaning the bore after every range trip burning Tripple 7.
