"Black Beauty" ANTIQUE (no PAL) .455 Webley WG Army Model of 1889 Revolver

This beautiful Webley WG Army specimen was made by P. Webley & Sons pre-1898 and chambered in .476 Eley and .455 Webley. The serial, 67xx puts manufacture around 1889 or 1890, which is supported by the '"WG" Model 1889' stamp on the top strap (the next variant in the series was "WG Model 1892"). Additionally, the "church steeple" fluted cylinder stopped being used in 1893.

These revolvers were very popular private purchases among sportsmen and higher ranking officers around the turn of the 20th century up through WW1 as reliable, accurate, and elegant handguns. With a 6" barrel and shiny refinished exterior, this is a formidable and pleasant revolver. The cylinder original serial 67xx is present, and interestingly it also has a non-original stamp 100 which is of unclear origin. During refinishing, the frame was etched with the original 7xx as well as 100, apparently due to uncertainty about which was original. The original can be identified by its orientation with base of numbers toward the center of the cylinder rather than toward the edge. As a pre-1898 antique, this can be owned and used without any registration or headaches.

Visually this revolver has a shiny dark blued refinished frame with only minor scratches, dents, and blemishes. The ejector has a shiny silver "in the white" finish giving a proud and bold contrast. The hard cast birdshead grips are strongly checkered and show almost no wear. Sharply stamped "WG Model 1889" on the top strap with the W&S winged bullet logo and patent marks on the left of the frame.The action functions in single and double action, with minor cylinder play. The cylinder indexes consistently for reliable firing and the timing is great. The bore retains defined rifling with traces of wear.
