Authentic small French flintlock pistol from Louis XV
Other Single Shot Firearms Muzzleloader

An elegant Louis XVI carriage pistol, the proof mark above the barrel indicates manufacture in Saint Etienne around 1735/1750 - all original parts, in very good overall condition, and in working order. Interestingly, its barrel is internally rifled for the period!
Characteristic of the late 18th century, this pocket weapon was designed for the personal protection of travelers and was easily carried in a carriage, coat pocket, or travel kit. The walnut handle, with its distinctive "fishtail" shape, displays an attractive antique patina. It features wrought iron fittings and mechanism, and a short barrel that is octagonal at first and then round, typical of French production during the Louis XVI period.
