This one is in excellent condition like new. It comes with a contemporary walnut dislay case in excellent condition. The nickel plate is 100% intact, and the action works as it should. The bores of the 3 1/2 inch barrels are good and bright with visible rifling. The rosewood grips are very good and undamaged. Matching serial numbers. SN 18462, rated excellent as restored.

History & Background
The Remington pepperbox was available in a 5-barrel .22 caliber and 4-barrel .32 caliber gun. It is one of Dr. Elliot’s patents, the dentist-turned firearms designer who, for a while, lived and worked in Montreal. Elliot’s patent is unique in that the firing pin is located in the recoil shield and is rotated by a lever attached to the ring trigger. The firing pin disc has four “wings” like a ship’s propeller which are engaged alternately by the hand and moved from one cartridge edge to the next. The breech can be opened by pushing up on the lever behind the trigger which disengages the connecting rod between the trigger and hand. The trigger is moved to the rear without firing, to expose the small hook under the barrel, which, when pulled forward, unlocks the barrel cluster. It is a somewhat complicated design but as such does not violate the Rollin White patent in force at the time.
