Discovery – 1791 Royal Joseon ‘Sambongjip’ Woodblock (King Jeongjo Edition)
two (2) double-sided East Asian printing woodblocks. Upon scholarly research and physical inspection, one artifact has been identified as a master block from the 1791 Royal Commissioned edition of the Sambongjip (三峯集), Volume 7, Page 14.
As you are aware, this specific edition was personally ordered by King Jeongjo (15th year of his reign) and produced under the supervision of the Gyujanggak (Royal Library). Given that the 1791 Sambongjip is a designated Treasure of the Republic of Korea, I believe this block represents a discovery of immense national and historical importance.
Archive Specifications:
Artifact 1 (Royal Block): Side A: Sambongjip (Korean 1791 Royal Edition); Side B: Xiaoxue Diaoti by Nakai Riken (Japanese 19th-Century Edition).
Artifact 2 (Biographical Block): Side A: Biography of Sun Qifeng (Chinese 19th-Century); Side B: Shikyōgi shitchū (Japanese Buddhist commentary).
Provenance: Both blocks are preserved in original Henan Provincial Library (河南省图书馆) jade-green, gold-lettered presentation cases. The set includes an archival print bearing the library’s official red cinnabar seal with verified fiber bleed-through.
