Pre-WW1 British Pattern 1821 Canadian Artillery Officer's Sword – no Scabbard Savage and Lyman Montreal Sword This company name was used by the Montreal silversmiths Savage and Lyman between 1868-1878. The left side of the blade immediately in front of the guard Is marked Savage & Lyman Montreal Within the engraving on the left side is a Crown.  Believed to be indicative of Queen Victoria. The right side of the blade has a small brass insert which says PROOF.  Wilkinson Sword introduced these Proof Discs in 1844. In the engraving on the right side of the blade is the word ARTILLERY The guard is steel and has fish skin wire bound grips with most of the fish skin having been worn away.   Length of Sword – 40 1/2” Length of Grip including the Guard – 5 1/2” Blade Length – 34 1/2”   Savage & Lyman Montreal (or Savage & Lyman and Company) were manufacturers and suppliers of swords, known for military pattern swords like those for Canadian militia units (e.g., 1st Battalion Chasseurs Canadiens), marking them as producers/sellers, though like many firms, they likely had blades forged elsewhere (perhaps by specialists like J. Martin in Montreal) and then finished, hilted, proofed, and sold by Savage & Lyman in Montreal, a common practice for armsmakers then.  Key Points: Evidence of Manufacturing: Swords clearly marked "SAVAGE & LYMAN MONTREAL" exist in museum collections, showing they were a recognized name in arms. Role: They functioned as an arms dealer and supplier, customizing and selling weapons for Canadian military and militia. Production vs. Supply: While they might not have forged every single blade from raw steel in-house, they were responsible for the final product, including proofing and adding their own markings, as seen on a 1885 Chasseurs Canadiens sword. I have an early 1970s Parker Hale of Birmingham 1858 Enfield 2 band rifled musket. These are highly appreciated for their build, fit and finish and accuracy. It is a .58 (.577). This one is in excellent condition with only a few minor marks as shown in the pics. This is a local sale but will ship on the buyer's dime. Asking $1150.00. I have an original 1858 Yataghan sword bayonet and scabbard that I will part with for $300.00. As always cash is king and the first person with an I'll take it and payment gets the gun. This is an original Japanese officer’s Samurai sword from World War 2 remounted in civil-styled samurai mounts. The blade is in Near MINT condition and the mountings are in Excellent condition. It is a healthy sword and has a blade length of 26.25 inches (67cm). The hada is a tight ko-itame. The hamon is a straight suguha hamon that is present the length of the blade ending in a maru boshi. The tang is signed Kinmichi. It is dated Showa Jyu Hachi Nen Roku Gatsu, or June 1943. Kinmichi was a member of the well-known Seki school that made many war era swords. The mountings are Civilian-styled and look to have been remounted on a sword that was initially intended for army usage. The mounts are in Excellent condition. The tsuka is wrapped in leather cord and looks to have been re-wrapped after the war with modern furniture. There is little to no fraying. The tsuba is iron with four accompanying seppa. The tsuba is a little loose. The saya (scabbard) is wood with a leather weathering cover. The leather cover is supple and well-aged, showing some cracking along the seams. The blade is in Near MINT condition. There are no nicks, little to no rust, and just a few scattered scratches along its length. There are no major flaws like hagire.

This is an original Japanese army officer’s sword in Shin Gunto mountings from World War 2. The blade and the fittings are in Near MINT condition. It is a healthy sword and has a blade length of 26.25 inches (67cm). The hada is a tight and visible itame. The hamon is a straight suguha hamon that is present the length of the blade ending in a maru boshi. The tang is signed Yoshimitsu. It is dated Showa Jyu Hachi Nen Shichi Gatsu, or July 1943. There is a Na acceptance stamp on the tang. Yoshimitsu was a member of the well-known Seki school that made many war era swords. The mountings are Type 98 Shin Gunto and in Near MINT condition. The tsuka is silk-cord wrapped with cherry blossom menuki. The wrapping is tight and there is little to no fraying. There is a blue/brown company officers tassel attached to the tsuka. The tsuba is the classic WW2 design with four accompanying metal seppas. The saya (scabbard) is green painted metal. It shows one very small dent and very few areas of missing finish, displaying roughly 98-99% original finish. There is a locking mechanism present. The blade is in Near MINT condition. There are no nicks, a few scattered small spots of rust, and some small scattered scratches. There are no major flaws like hagire.

The blade is 26.5 inches long (67cm) and has a fuller the entire length of the blade. The blade is numbered 20730 and the scabbard is numbered 20437. There is an arsenal stamp on the blade next to the number. The sword is in Excellent condition showing no nicks, a few small scattered spots of rust, and some scattered scratches along its length. The mounts are in Excellent condition. The scabbard is green painted metal showing no dents and retaining roughly 80% of its original finish. The handle shows no dents and retains roughly 80% of its original finish.
