Many were sold to the US military. It has a counter-clockwise rotating cylinder with locking slots on the back. This one is in very fine condition with a scarce 3-inch barrel. It retains 100% of the nickel. Excellent, sharp markings, matching assembly numbers on all parts. Nice nitre-blue on the hammer and trigger. The action is crisp and strong, and the cylinder indexes and locks properly with no play on trigger pull. The bore is very fine and bright, with sharp rifling. The grips are very fine with no wear . SN 25842. History & Background This model is an important milestone in Colt handgun development, as it is the first American revolver with a swing-out cylinder mounted on a crane, a development which would become the standard for modern revolvers to this day. Do you have Gophers, Coyotes, or a really bad flinch? Buy this Ruger American and you will come away as the owner of a sweet .204 laser beam for varmint control. We're talking 4000 fps, point blank range of 250 yards, and 5 lbs of felt recoil. Gophers, dead. Coyotes, dead. Pigeons, dead. Typical grouping is under 1" @ 100 yards with factory ammo. The best I've done has been 3/8" @ 100 after some lengthy round development. As you might have noticed, this particular American has been kitted out with a Bell and Carlson stock (1053_97) and a AICS box magazine well (0050_00). The Ruger stock was a flimsy piece of furniture; this B&C is much better, more stable, and wasn't particularly inexpensive. If I were to buy this rifle new, exactly as is, it's be a $1700 touch after tax. I'm willing to let it go for $1000, firm. You won't be disappointed.
