WW1 Swiss Model 1914 Pioneer Sawback Sword bayonet Sawback sword bayonet for use on the 7.5 mm. Schmidt-Rubin M1911 carbine and the M1931 Short Rifle (K31). The M1914 has a swell-point blade profile, where the blade is wider at the point than at the ricasso. The 1914 blade is fullered on only one side. The right side of the blade has the initials HS stamped immediately in front of the guard for the Maker Hans Steimer With the Swiss proof mark stamped below the initials. The back of the blade has an aggressive saw blade which starts 1” in front of the guard and extends to 14” from the guard. The right side of the guard has the number 478681 stamped in it. The release button works as designed. The scabbard is in good condition with the original leather attachment strap included. This bayonet was manufactured by Paillard with their mark stamped on the end of the scabbard. Overall Length – with blade in scabbard - 25” Length of Bayonet – 23 7/8” Length of Grip including the Guard – 5” Blade Length – 19 3/4” The M1914 was issued to select troops. When equipped with K31 rifles, the M1914 bayonet was issued to: —Engineers; —Driver corporals and mounted artillery sergeants; —Blacksmiths, blacksmith private first class or lance corporal, blacksmith sergeants; —Horse transport soldiers, PFCs, corporals and sergeants; —Saddle makers; and, —Drivers for motorized field artillery, howitzers and heavy howitzers. Length: SMLE No. 1 Mk III: 44.57 in (1,132 mm) Barrel length: SMLE No. 1 Mk III: 25.2 in (640 mm) In late 1915 the Mk III* was introduced incorporating several changes, the most prominent of which were the deletion of the magazine cut-off mechanism, which when engaged permits the feeding and extraction of single cartridges only while keeping the cartridges in the magazine in reserve, and the long-range volley sights. The windage adjustment of the rear sight was also dispensed with, and the cocking piece was changed from a round knob to a serrated slab. Rifles with some or all of these features present are found, as the changes were implemented at different times in different factories and as stocks of parts were depleted. The magazine cut-off was reinstated after the First World War ended, and not entirely dispensed with in manufacturing until 1933. The SMLE Mk III* (renamed Rifle No.1 Mk III* in 1926) saw extensive service throughout the Second World War, especially in the North African, Italian, Pacific and Burmese theatres in the hands of British and Commonwealth forces. *Price reduction fro a quick sale* This is a High Condition 1944 BSA selected to be upgraded into a "T" pattern sniper rifle with correct "TR" marking on the left side of receiver ring. These sniper rifles were based on hand selected No. 4 rifles and saw service with Commonwealth forces during WWII and into the 1960s. In addition to the rifle's standard protected blade front sight and ladder rear, Scope is a No. 32 Mk. II OS. 1650A & mounted on a quick detach base. Scope is dated 1944 and numbered "15803"which is matched to the rifle with the same number force matched on the wrist(see photo). Cast scope base is a high quality reproduction(Roger Payne replica) and was Matched 3522 to same as on the bolt and rifle. Walnut stock with cheek piece, "S51" also stamped behind the grip indicating the rifle is a wartime conversion by famed gunmaker Holland & Holland. CONDITION: Very Good. Metal retains the vast majority of its arsenal applied finishes with some fading. Stocks show small nicks and impressions throughout as is to be expected on military issue arms. Good, strong grooves and bright bore. Scope is original and is still very clear for it age. Also included as an original green metal scope case for securing the scope. However, the numbers on this case are not matching the scope.. Barrel Length: 25 - 1/2" Caliber/Bore: .303 BSA Model: No. 4 MK 1* (T) Serial Number: D3522. Also comes with a Chest S.A. No15 Mk1 - Transit Chest for the Lee Enfield No 4T Sniper Rifle. Overall I would give the condition a 9/10. This world make an excellent addition to any collection.
