High Condition Wesson & Harrington No.3 .32 Rimfire-Short Pocket Revovler
32 RF Revolver Firearms Handgun
Howdy Townpost. Have a nice little treat here for you to have a look at.
This is a small iron framed pocket revolver built between 1874 and 1879 of a production run of approximately 15,000. It is chambered in the .32 Rimfire Short cartridge and is a 5 shot cylinder single action only revolver. It has a unique sliding ejector rod that mounts under the barrel and is held in by a spring loaded detent. Most revolvers of this type and era typically required you to remove the cylinder to reload them.
It has a high condition nickel or nickel chrome finish and shows little wear or corrosion. The grips are beautiful rosewood with a wonderful color and figure to them. The bore on this particular firearm is among the best I've ever seen on an antique 32 rimfire pocket gun. It's near spotless very clean and has very sharp and pronounced rifling. There is a little bit of pitting in a couple of the chambers but it's quite mild and located right where the neck of the case would have been when cartridges were fired. There is some nickel loss on the front of the cylinder as pictured and one little spot of corrosion. The color case hardening on the hammer is quite strong as well, as pictured.
The mechanics on this firearm are excellent. Timing and lockup are perfect and all of the springs are strong and perfectly functional and working as intended.
Wesson & Harrington was a manufacturing partnership between Frank Wesson and Gilbert Harrington, that lasted from 1871 until 1874 or 1875. They were based in Worcester, Massachusetts, and specialized in manufacturing small single-action revolvers. After the partnership dissolved, Wesson returned to manufacturing rifles and pistols under his own name, while Harrington continued to manufacture handguns under the "Wesson & Harrington" name; in 1888, he formed another partnership with an employee, William Richardson, to become "Harrington & Richardson". Frank Wesson was the younger brother of Daniel B. Wesson of Smith & Wesson, and Harrington and Richardson is still a household name in my opinion I don't need to tell you who H&R is!
